Regenerative braking is an EVs equivalent to using the engine compression to slow down an ICE car. Generally speaking, regen braking is always maxed out one way or another before the friction brakes are used. It is simply much more efficient to turn the kinetic energy back into electrical energy and store back in the battery pack, than wearing off friction material in the friction brakes. This is why friction brake pads and rotors can last many times longer in an EV than in an ICE car. The friction brakes just aren't used much in normal daily driving. Though in some cars the regen can be completely disabled and only friction brakes are used.

The whole lift off the Go pedal, regen braking, friction braking, and brake pedal integration is something that various manufacturers EVs implement differently. Most do at least some regen when lifting the Go pedal. Many blend regen braking and friction braking when pressing the brake pedal. Some, like Tesla, all regen is on lift and the brake pedal is totally friction braking. Taycan does little regen on lift, and mostly blends regen and friction on the brake pedal. My wifes Chebby Volt has some regen on lift, and some extra when initially pressing the brake pedal. Then the manufacturers have various menu options to adjust regen to taste. And even steering wheel paddles to increase/decrease regen on the fly.

So with respect to the Taycan, as others have mentioned above, there is a menu option to increase the amount of regen on Go pedal lift. Perhaps that is all she needs.

I like just about everything better on my Taycan 4s over the Macan GTS but I could see how your wife could like the higher ride height and smaller size of the Macan. She may have never used the regen button which I use almost all the time in traffic to give the feel of engine braking. Otherwise I feel like the car wants to drive into the back of the car in front unless I ride the brake pedal.

Unfortunately now if you did get a Taycan you will never hear the end of any minor issue the car has and it will be your fault. Maybe the upcoming electric Macan or Audi Q4 would be an option.

No one should have to be convinced to buy a car north of $100K. Be it a Taycan or anything else.

Sounds like you should buy the Taycan and let the wife have the car she wants... And happy wife, happy life, so for the love of sanity dont push her into what she doesnt want. Granted, sometimes people dont know what they want in which case best to do is nothing, perhaps...

One reason I suspect she may not like it is because it is actually a massive car. It has a footprint of a Range Rover. And not all people like this, especially if they come off something like the Macan.

EDIT: I see she kept the Macan. Smart choice if she liked that car.

I find that a majority of the women that I know prefer to be higher up (i.e., SUVs/crossovers) when they drive, and that it's men who are more interested in cars (lower seating). Apparently a safety/practical issue for the women I know, primarily (better visibility, easier to get in and out of, more space for passengers and cargo). The forthcoming Macan BEV may appeal to many women who might not be drawn to the Taycan.

Now that she has driven a Cayenne for 8 years, my wife won’t go back.

honestly - if I'm going to spend any time convincing my wife to do something she doesn't want to do - there are other things higher on the list than drive a Taycan…
