Default Trade in 992 CS for Taycan 4s?

Hi guys,

I am very confused after driving a Taycan 4s recently.

Currently I own a 2019 911 992 CS which is an absolute stunner in GT silver with spyder wheels. I love the design of the car and I don’t care what people say: not a real 911 because it has turbos, it sounds poor and it has become too big.

Before the 992 I owned a Tesla model 3 performance which was flawless but a bit dull. I always dreamt of owning a 911 and therefore traded it in for a 911.

But the 911, although it is beautiful, I must say the car does not impress me much 😔
I guess the reason is that I drive the car as a daily for 35km each day. I have a family with 2 kids and therefore not much time to take the car out for a spin in the weekends. What I do like is the occasional revving of the engine and driving hard out of a corner.

Do you guys understand what I am trying to say? It is a beautiful car but I don’t use it to its full potential I think.

Last week I had a testdrive in a Taycan 4s which is far more practical as a daily. It reminded me to the Tesla experience but it has that genuine Porsche feeling which makes it special.

Loved the electric sport sound and the comfort of the ride. I even think it is much faster for daily use because of the instant torque. The ride was so smooth.

The only negative feeling I got was the size of the car. It is much bigger than I expected it to be.

Right now I am confused. Daily driving is better in Taycan but I like the design of the 992 more. I can probably miss the engine sound of the 911 because the cool electric sport sound but I am also afraid to get a Tesla 2.0 experience with the Taycan...

What do you guys think? Anyone missing it’s 911?

I can get where you are coming from. I can easily see the 992 being a bit dull for everyday use as the car doesn't come alive until you start pushing it. With the Taycan you get that instant thrust when you tap the gas pedal. Which to me makes it far more enjoyable in the boring everyday commute. Now if you were taking them up to some nice roads the 911 would win hands down. In this instance it's all about use case. If you are only driving it around the streets and never get to take it anywhere to have fun. Then you are much better off in the Taycan. Let alone it can haul your whole family so it will be used more often. Depending on your current fleet you could downsize two cars to one with it.

Thanks for your reply. Exactly my thoughts.

For daily driving the Taycan is the better car on the streets.

But do you think the Taycan becomes boring after a while? I had that feeling in the model 3 after a couple of months. Or is it a true Porsche feeling every time you get behind the wheel?

If in your situation, a Taycan is a more reasonable choice for your lifestyle, there’s nothing wrong with that.

I’d love to add a Taycan especially the CT to my garage, but it will never be a replacement of my 911; well, maybe until that day the world bans operations of all gasoline powered vehicles.

I bought a 992 turbo s and a Taycan 4s this year. My Taycan has 3000 miles to my 911 which has 300. The Taycan is that good. I’m also an old Tesla guy and still have a model 3 performance that my wife mainly drives.

I just got home from trading my '19 CS for a Taycan Turbo. I can tell you that I will have days where I'll miss the 911 but that shouldn't be read as regretting the decision. The Taycan is just a different kind of fun.

I don't think it's the car that's becoming boring whether it's your 992 or a Taycan. It's the kind of driving you have to do - the 35km commute and driving with kids. Those two don't lend themselves to exciting driving.

I've had several 911's in the past including a GT3. They are perfect for weekend drives on back roads or at the track, but around town they are mostly frustrating. In addition I found myself driving my 911's less and less as my kids starting getting older and I didn't have time for joy rides on the weekend. As a result they were turning into garage queens.

As a daily driver I've had multiple EV's over the years including a Tesla Model X. I developed separate passion for EV's just like the passion I had for 911s. The Taycan ultimately was the perfect blend of these two passions. Porsche driving experience, EV performance, and enough room for my family. I've had my Taycan for 9 months and don't regret selling the 911s. I do miss the occasional screaming flat 6, but after driving my brother's Ferrari 458 recently, it felt slow compared to the Taycan, and again wasn't fun driving around town.

I'll most likely get another 911 in the future, but it will probably be a classic. A new 911 will never feel as fast on the street as a Taycan and similar EV. I would rather buy an old manual naturally aspirated 911 to enjoy the sound, driving engagement, and the classic shape I grew to love.

Thank you for your answer! This helps me a lot!
Nothing can beat a classic 911 for the weekends.

I just sold the 911 and ordered a Taycan 4s!

thanks!

I own a Taycan Turbo S and 992 Turbo S and I use them for different reasons. Around town and when my kids are with me, I take the Taycan. If I want to do some backroads driving with kids in tow or take a scenic cruise with just my wife, I take the 911. I love driving and it’s a hobby for me, so the 911 checks a lot of boxes and can not be replaced by the Taycan. If I could only have 1 car, it would be the Taycan because of my kids, but I’d still find a way to keep a 911 for the weekends.

Have to agree with most of the comments above.

I was a similar position a few months ago and ended up getting a '21 T4S. Getting a 911 4S or better (likely Turbo) was always dream for me. I did test drive a C4S before I pulled the trigger on the T4S and I didn't feel like I was missing anything by going EV.

When I did drive the Taycan 4S, I had to have it immediately and picked it up the same day, once I made the numbers work.

The instant torque was addictive and although I will miss the pur of a flat 6 and the sweet sound of the Turbos spooling, I feel like the T4S is definitely providing me the full 'Porsche experience.'

With Lamborghini announcing just this week that they will be all electric by the end of '24, you can tell the direction of travel. I can do anything one can do in a 911 and easily keep up with a Turbo off the line. The one thing I will miss is tinkering and tuning a turbo ICE vehicle which I can't do with an EV. Who knows, maybe some smart engineer will come out with a way to mod an EV to make it go faster too!

Here's a pic of the new beast in the stable!

The Taycan doesn’t handle as well as the 911. You can feel the weight of the Taycan in the turns and thus the 911 feels more nimble. 0-60 numbers don’t tell the full story.

you are probably right (e.g. feeling the weight mid-turn), but some of us really don't drive our cars spirited enough to notice the difference... I would love a Turbo-S Cab for the weekends though!

Yes, and in other news scientists are reporting that water is, indeed, wet.
