I actually think the Porsche EV's are not very profitable right now. There are press releases with Blume stating the Taycan won't make money until 2023 primarily because of the battery costs, which they estimate will come down significantly over the next few years. I'm playing my part in supporting the base Taycan - below from the same article:
This is part of the reason why Porsche has launched with the expensive Taycan Turbo and Turbo S models. The truth is they’re not that much more expensive to build than lower-end models.

A 100kw battery pack costs about $14,000 now. Porsche will get a few thousand more in profit by 2023 as packs come down to less than $100/kw, but not vastly more.

the pricing and power/performance make perfect sense in the context of the entire Porsche Product line - and there in lies the problem - they can’t price the Taycan’s appropriately without trashing their existing product line sales…
porsche is trying to pull off a very very delicate transition here - they need to ramp down their ICE business, but it currently makes them a lot of money - and if they priced the new product line appropriately it would tank the panamera business for example…
so we’re left with artificial product designations that make less sense in an EV world, and they are priced so as not to threaten the existing ICE business…
it’s a class problem for existing manufactures transitioning to a new disruptive technology - porsche is trying to adopt/promote the disruption technology while controlling hte amount of disruption to their existing line
so we end up with $80k RWD taycan’s that really aren’t that compelling…we all know porsche could price a 4S at 90k and make some of hte options standard but that’s a bit too disruptive to their existing business…

eh. Except they’re 5 years behind Porsche’s curve, and as late as 2019 were in complete denial. Mercedes and Tesla have been feasting rampantly on BMW market share. BMW canceled all their interesting hybrids and the leads all quit or were fired. Their BEV products are all vaporware which they appear to have only started after firing their last CEO. Porsche (who learned it from Tesla) realized you can’t make a world class bev on an ice platform. But BMW said they would. Lolz.
Porsche expects to sell 40% EV, 10% hybrid within 5 years. Which at least seems vaguely plausible.
so I don’t think I’d call it the same dilemma

Absolutely! This is what I was waiting for! Hopefully they give a good trade in on the M3P!

Same here.. I get about USD $23k difference with same options between Taycan 2 and Taycan 4S... Since my first BEV will be bought only for local commuting (no road trips with public charging), I'm very tempted to go for the Taycan 2.

I'd happily roll in a base Taycan. I don't need AWD in CA, and the car is more than quick enough to be as fast or faster than the majority of commuting cars out there. Granted, you probably need close to $10k of options to make it not look so plain on the outside and inside, but this is plenty enough car for me. Having said all that, I love how the Sport Turismo looks so much I'd just go for that.

Yes, it's $10k more, BUT that price includes standard air suspension, larger battery and pano sunroof. PLUS AWD, which is actually a bigger benefit than you would think with a powerful EV. Plus more headroom, more cargo space, more versatilty and better rear visibility. All of those things for $1,500 more ($90,720 vs. $92,200).
So if you were down for air suspension, big battery and roof, it's a no brainer to get the Cross Turismo. Only reason to get Cayenne base is if you wanted to really keep the price low by not selecting those options, or you don't like the wagon shape. Which I understand not everyone will.
This applies base Taycan to CT4 only.

My build came in a 107k, more than my 2014 911 or my 2016 911, but much less than my GT3. If I wanted another fast car, I would have ordered it. There is only some much of me to go around.
