The very first Porsche with the Taycan. Great juxtraposition. Too bad the Mission E concept was a block of clay with wheels that don’t turn. Still looked cool.
Did you go to The Quail this year? The Porsche faithful are everywhere. There was a great showing of 356’s, from the ordinary to the legendary with a few outlaws thrown in for variety. Ruf was there with an impressive array of Yellow Birds and CTR 3 cars, and Gunther Werks had not only a complete 400R on their display, but a bare carbon fiber shell as well. Singer was there in force, and throw in a handful of ‘73 Carrera RS’es and it was quite a show. Porsche itself kept a pretty low profile with the exception of the #1 356 and the Mission E concept car, but notably the other car they brought to the event was the #22 917K that Marko and Lennep won the 1971 Le Mans with. The 917 transformed Porsche from an underdog into a Ferrari slayer and the lap record set in ‘71 stood for almost forty years. This was the same car that Steve McQueen drove in the movie Le Mans, I believe. I had goose bumps when I touched that car.
