987 Spyder Exhaust Question

987 Spyder Exhaust Question
Hello,
I'm a new owner of a 987 Spyder, 6 speed, LWB, Arctic Silver. I love the car so far, it does everything very well. It does not have PSE, and my only complaint is the exhaust note. Coming for a GT3 with a Sharkwerks bypass, this thing sounds like a hairdryer. What is the simplest and most cost effective way to get some decent sound without a lot of drone. Thanks for your advice or opinions...Steve

I'm also listening... mine was spec'ed out as light as possible (w/ a radio) and that means the original owner saved 20+ lbs. not going with PSE. Wondering if there is a simple and reversible way to get some more "oompphhffff" into that exhaust.

Congrats on the Spyder! How does it compare to the GT3 in your avatar? Post some pictures when you have a chance.
I have PSE on mine and it sounds great with no drone at any speed. It has a nice burble as RPM's decline and it sounds awesome when you're above 4500 RPM. I do wish that it had slightly more sound but overall it definitely improves the driving experience. i don't think the PSE adds 20 lbs but it definitely adds some weight.
Another option would be Remus Titanium (if you want the ultimate in lightweight) or Fabspeed if you want something louder and maybe 15 lbs lighter than stock. There is a thread on Planet 9 with various exhausts tested back to back, that might be a good starting point to determine which you prefer but it won't tell you if the exhaust has drone unfortunately.

The Gundo hack is frequently done on the 997 exhaust and it sounds similar to the PSE when done. But the 987.2 exhaust is different, it doesn't have the same configuration and I haven't heard of any changes that can be made but to be honest I haven't researched it either.

Thanks guys! That Cantrell deal seems to be just what I'm looking for. I like to leave everything stock as possible. As far as comparison to the GT3, the GT3 was considerably more powerful, but it was not a whole lot more capable for the street. I sold it to complete my 69E restoration so the Spyder was a natural replacement at half the cost. The GT3 is almost too much for the street, where as the Spyder is just right on the street. I would say if the Spyder had 380hp, it would be the ultimate street car.

Yes - it does need either the PSE ( which I have and is GREAT) or some sort of aftermarket product. The PSE is a nice option if you are in the city where there are piles of traffic cops gunning for noise violations etc... I drove past one just yesterday, hit the button, all goes quiet, budda-bing, budda-boom. I think they are about 3K to install but in my experience, worth it in the end.
Congrats on picking up arguably the best sports car / dollar on the market.
PS. Just think, you can sell me your LWB's to swap out with my Sports, install the PSE, and have cash left over!

I don't have a spyder, but do have a Black Edition which has the same exhaust. My car didn't come with PSE, but I bought one last summer. It changes the car so much, especially in Sport+ when you get overrun. I bought the exhaust from isringhausen, and the install kit came from suncoast
I have a PDK, and DD mine so i actually use the button to turn it off when the top is up. With PDK, I get drone on the highway at cruising speed.

I have PSE on mine but my previous 987 did not and I tried a couple of aftermarket solutions, plus the TechArt soundbox and Dream pipe....really PSE is the best way to go. Yes you can get up to 15HP with the other systems but the drone was headache inducing in California where you are constantly downshifting in traffic. I will never do that again.
There are some expensive valved systems but at 6k or so they can be a real investment.
Used PSE come up on P9 often. Heck one was sold here by a Spyder owner who didn't like his.
