Default R Compound Tires that can be driven on the street

Hello,
I'm returning to the track with my Porsche Cayman after roughly 15 years of driving shifter karts.

When I last took a street car to the track I used Yokohama A032Rs as they were a tire I could drive to and from the track with (they were not as soft as R compound tires like the Hoosiers).

Today, what would folks recommend as an R compound tire that I could put on at home and drive to the track in (and I understand they will not be the softest best performing R compound tires).

Also, any recommendations on tire sizes? I bough some stock Porsche 18x8 and 18x9 Boxter S rims to use as track rims. From reading the lists 18x10 would have been better in the rear, but I'm trying to keep costs down as this will only be a car I occasionally use at the track.

Nitto NT-01s or R888 would probably fit the bill assuming driving to track and not daily driving in addition.

i agree. i would add go to the track first and get their[drivers] opine. be careful if caught in the rain and do not expect anything close to mileage out of them. get an alignment that will work with the tires............and shocks.......and sway bars......on and on

Look into the new Yoko AD08R's. Though, not an R compound tire.

I ran Michelin Pilot Sport Cups for two years and drove them to the track. Not great in standing water but I survived. Toyo 888 are extremely noisy on the road and not that great on the track. Nitto 01 seem to be a good compromise until the tread is gone.

I've been running nothing but Rs on my cars since the late 80s.
You can drive them all on the street... though I wouldn't trust the Hoosiers - they're just too lightly built.

I heard that R888s are very noisy, but nothing prepared me for the full horror of the reality. The best description is "howling like the souls of the damned", or more prosaically like all four wheel bearings are expiring at once. I thought the was something wrong with the car when I went out on them the first time.

In preparation for NOLA (New Orleans) 2 weeks ago I removed my street wheels to bleed the brakes. To my dismay both rear tires were corded on the inside. Could not find Michelin Super Sports in town. I ended up ordering a pair from Discount Tire Direct and had them shipped to an approved installer near the track. Coincidentally, I had done the same for a set of Nitto NT-01s because I had a set that I thought I could get 1 more DE day out of. Not having any alternative, I drove from Memphis to New Orleans on my rear Nittos. No problem. I then ran 3 sessions on them before the fronts corded. The rears still looked good and they were still providing good grip. 9 track days and 400 highway miles.

So I went with the Nitto NT-01.

For my purposes they were an excellent choice. I wanted a decent track tire that could get me too and from the track and I thought they had excellent grip, more than I was expecting. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
