Paint to Sample
PTS is still available on the Cayman R, anyone order one in PTS?
wonder how much longer it will be available?
also, interesting to note that the two colors on the configurator were the same two colors offered to Cayman when he was trying to get a PTS Spyder, a pastell orange for PTS, non-metallic, looks very similar to GT Orange and a Pearl Gray metallic

I tried on my Cayman R. First choice was the new liquid metal silver blue on the 918RSR - rejected since they are saving it for the 918 in 2014. My second choice was a rare 1970's Ferrari Dino 246 color - Blu Celeste Metallizzato - rejected. My last choice was a 1960s (C3) Corvette Silver-Blue (which seems to go by several names) - also rejected.
It seems like Paint to Sample really means "paint a color available in another model".

It sure does seem like that. I get that car bodies are now constructed of various materials - plastics, metals, carbon fiber - and that colors can read inconsistently on different surfaces. So Porsche should just provide a palette of colors available with upcharges. The once literal "Paint to Sample" option now seems like a big waste of time (and money) for what are primarily standard Porsche colors.

The really annoying thing is that I wasted 10 calendar days that translated into a manufacture date that was 30+ days later than the date on my first PTS submission - not something I would have done if they'd been more upfront with me, or I'd known their policy. I'm glad the car's a 2012 model, since I'll be getting it around the same time 2012's start arriving, anyway.
BTW, I've seen plenty of cars at the dealerships where those painted parts of "various materials" don't match, so that's a crapshoot to my mind, anyway.

so, Porsche has a new paint shop

you would think this would make it easier to do PTS

was at the dealer today, so figured I'd ask the question
PTS was closed out at the end of August on the Cayman R and is no longer available
with the new 991s and soon 981s, don't think PTS will be available for awhile, except on Panamera
