987.2 spyder third brake light replacement
The third brake light in the bar between the humps has burned out after only 46K on the clock. I'm in need of guidance as to how to go about replacing the LED light bar. I see one nut on each end of the light bar housing on the underneath side of rear trunk lid that might allow for the housing to be removed. But am unsure as to how the light bar is removed from housing. I've spent a good amount of time researching the web to no avail. I'm hoping someone has experience with this repair? thanks!

The same center brake light is used for 997.2 GT3 (spoiler mounted) and all 997 Turbo models, so you may be able to find DIY replacement info for one of them.
I'd start by removing those two fasteners and see if it just pops out.

Tools needed for third brake light replacement include an 8mm socket, T25 torx, long shaft flat blade screwdriver, spotlight/flashlight, and a metal parts magnet retriever in case of a dropped fastener. Unclip the third brake light electrical connection using your thumbnail. There are two 8mm nuts and a T25 torx screw on the underneath side of trunk that attaches the third brake light housing to the top of the trunk. Remove the 8mm and T25 on the passenger side of the brake light housing. Remove the 8mm nut on the driver side of the housing while holding on to the housing to prevent it from rolling off upon removal. With the housing on end on a workbench, shine the flashlight down the passenger side of the housing to locate the spring loaded clip that when pushed by the screwdriver will release the brake light out of the housing. Remove brake light from housing and unclip remaining pigtail wiring. Installation is the reverse process.
