Tire replacement for Spyder. What's current the best option?

Yep, you’re preaching to the choir. You made the right call but my Indy wouldn't budge. We settled on $350 for him to use Porsche TPMS. Which are made by HUF.

Echo chamber - PS4S on my Spyder, luv 'em. Such a fan that I treated my 2018 Mazda3 Hatchback to a new set of PS All Season 4. Obviously over-kill (Z rated!), but that gives my in-town run-about rascal really amusing handling (amazing turn-in). The previous gen MZ3 (before Mazda gave the 3 the rear beam axle neutering) is a much under-appreciated cheap car (aka door ding attractor). Back on topic - PS4S all day long on the Spyder.

Coming up on year 7 on a set of PS2’s and they are still performing very well. No signs of hardening or losing grip although I have noticed that road noise has been increasing lately so it’s only a matter of time. I’ll likely replace with the same as they’re OE, still the lightest offering and I like how they perform. More grip never hurts but I’m not keen on the softer sidewall.

The >lightest offering< comment caught my attention so I checked it out on Tire Rack. Comparing PS2 to PS4S, it turns out that the fronts weigh the same, but the rear PS2 is two pounds lighter than the PS4S. That’s four pounds of unsprung weight, or roughly a full country breakfast. The full comparo can be found here:

Canyon carving and top down country driving. 3k miles on the Continentals. Very good feel in and out of the corners. Did run PS4s on my Z4. They transformed the ride and handling vs the firestone it came with.
I would do the Continental tires again knowing it would the same but new. Good comparison video (above) shows non track drivers give up nothing between these 2.

I was finally able to do 15-20 miles yesterday (still far from 'broken in') but unequivocally the tires are a huge improvement from the Firestone Firehawk Indy's that were on the car. Ride comfort is very very good and the grip inspires a lot of confidence. You turn the wheel and car immediately follows with no squish or delayed reaction. It all feels very 'connected'. I can't speak to how they handle at or near the limit because quite honestly the road is no place for me to drive a car in that manner.
Ultimately it came down to a tire with a construction and compound that Porsche has approved (PS2) and a tire that didn't (PS4S) for basically the exact same price. That alone made it a very simple choice to me. One has to make up their own mind if they buy into or out of the 'Porsche N-spec'. The fact that they immediately feel better than a 5 year old, non N-spec tire, also shouldn't be a surprise. All in all, a very happy customer here indeed and can rest easy for the next 5 years.

Just donned a fresh set (2023) of PS2 N2's and they are SPECTACTULAR. Supper happy w them.
Normally I'm a PS4 guy but after numerous positive glowing entries on this thread I made the jump.

The interior is getting better as I just finished a couple of easy mods (carpets, GT3 shifter and GT3 steering wheel). It's got a nice balanced look now.
I know we're hijacking this thread but you commented!!

Keep us posted as you get more miles on the PS2’s. When I bought my 997 GT3, years ago, it had PS2’s on them. Was happy with them so went with them again last year. My friend put PS2’s on his Cayman R as well. I’m sure PS4S are great, last longer and have better comfort, but I also saw comments from a few people mentioning they preferred the steering feel of the PS2. Whether or not it’s going to be the case for everyone, who knows, but I was happy enough with the PS2’s originally to get them again. I also like that they’re Porsche approved, no real logic behind that, just neat.

I had a set of PS4S installed a few weeks ago and have put about 200 miles on them. The previous set were NO PS2’s which had plenty of tread left, but had timed out. Frankly, I don’t notice a difference between the two. I don’t track my car. The only reason I switched was to compare them for myself. And now I have.
