I have wondered the same thing as there is conflicting information out there. In the end, I decided on 130Nm or 96 ft lb, as that is the spec in the eauto online workshop manual for the 2011 Spyder, as sourced from Porsche US.
Officially, the change in torque happened in 2011, when Porsche first released black lug bolts. The torque depended on lug color (seriously). For later generations, they just stuck with the higher torque spec and made it retroactive, probably to avoid confusion or a safety issue:
- Silver wheel bolts (up to model year 2011) = 130 Nm (96 ftlb.). 160 Nm (118 ftlb.) also permitted retroactively.
- Silver wheel bolts as of model year 2012 = 160 Nm (118 ftlb.).
- Black wheel bolts = 160 Nm (118 ftlb.)
The correct unit of measurement for this is lb/ft (pound-foot), not ft/lb (foot-pound-force). They are different measurements, and even official publications get it wrong.
Fair question. I wanted to remove the leftover wheel weight adhesive from inside the wheels. Nasty job made easier with Goof-off and a plastic squeegee.
Also needed to replace the black plastic “mud flap” (for lack of a better description) that is in front of the rear wheel. That piece of plastic is much larger than you would expect.
