It is a typo. I was part of the process to get the car approved in T3. Was supposed to be any DOT 255 (or smaller) since Touring 3 doesn't have a spec tire. Has nothing to do with what Hoosier makes, but their 245/40-17 would be a good choice. I have sent in a letter and talked to the Touring Committee already about an errors and omissions update.

 

With NASA GTS on Hoosiers, would the car do best on the widest legal 245/275 tires pretty much without exception? Wondering if on higher speed tracks the narrower set would help top end speed without giving much up in the corners. And if they're cheaper, even better.

 

There's a point where the tire is too much grip for the car. Even from a handling perspective not just top speed. I would think 275 would be over that limit for SPB.

 

I don't understand this comment, Barber has nothing to do with the fact that the TN Region decided to run Time Trials instead of having an enduro.

 

Barber rental fees are astronomical so SCCA cannot afford a 3 day event. And enduros have not been highly subscribed. There were only 8 cars in the 90 minute enduro at Roebling Majors. Can't justify that much track time for that little revenue at an expensive track.

 

Sure, Roebling is cheap, but RA and Barber are basically the same cost for a weekend, and they still manage to run an enduro at RA.

 

Atlanta Region SCCA doesn't pay full price for Rd ATL.

 

So, RA is astronomical as well, just not for SCCA?

 

In the shadow of COTA, everything else is cheap :-)

Yesterday's SCCA Fasttrack:

Any DOT tire up to 255 will be allowed for SPB in T3 effective 1/1/18.

We'll see how things shake out at Runoffs this year.

 

I see two Boxsters registered for the Runoffs in T3 at the moment, David Byassee and Cecil Morris, both from Denver.

Is either using your services, Todd? If so, what tire will they be running?

 

I have reached out to the other two guys but not sure what their plans are. The Hoosier 225 is a little narrow but I'm going to give it a try on the test days. I plan to run the SPB instead of the MX-5 I'm registered with.

 

admittedly I'm not the most knowledgeable guy in SPB but I wish we could run DOT radials, these R compounds seem like such a waste of money

 

The DOT radial most people are using in SCCA T3, the Hoosier R7, is actually more than the Toyo's we currently run! The Toyo RR 255/40-17 is $944 a set, and the Hoosier R7 245/40-17 is $1,224 a set.
