Joining the Spec Box Club, I've looked at Numeric and CAE, are both legal?
I put the CAE in my E46 and it works really well with that box, I was wondering what others thought of the two.

Ive been told the short shifters might be the cause for gearbox failures, any comments?

I run a CAE w POC and PCA races. The shift is slower but precise. No $$$ shifts. I have it in my spec boxster. You going to run with us? The field is growing nationally as well as the talent level racing in it. You will need to modify the ends of your stock cables.

bkovac, the plan is to run the POC and some PCA events. Anders has been telling me what a blast its been and I was really surprised at the numbers at Willow.

hes lonely, he needs more competition. We are implementing a 3 tire rule for him only. We had 15 BSR at willow and have 12 signed up for next week at Buttonwillow. Have you found a car?

CAE and Numeric are both good. But like with any short shifter one needs to decide why they need one. If it is just to reduce movement, great. If it is to reduce shifting time on the upshift then one must be prepared for increased syncro wear.

I like the OEM 997.2 GT3RS shifter myself. Its shorter than stock, but requires no extra leverage. It has metal bearing in it and isnt a terrible price. I put it on top of the Rennline 7" shift riser so its nice and high and closer to the steering wheel.

I have stock and after this weekend am hoping to have a solution that doesnt result in a higher chance of damage to the trans. I was told by numerous people at COTA that anything other than stock WILL cause failures and that I need to be prepared to fix those if I make the change. Is there really nothing durable in the market thats OK to use?

what problems are you looking to solve? You seem unhappy with the stock set up, so what are looking to improve?

I have a modified rennline shifter riser which can solve the problem a bit

Mainly the mushy feel that I have with the stock setup.

Any of the more solid bushed shifters mentioned will help, as will cables such as those made by Numeric (if legal). Just be careful of how much the shift throw is reduced.
