Default 987 shocks/springs in a 986

So, not specifically a spec boxster question but I wonder if this group can help. I crossed posted this from the boxster forum.

Does anyone have any knowledge on what the exact differences are on the 987 and 986 strut assembly? I have a "free" set of 987 sport shocks with H and R springs and would like to use as much of the setup as possible. I think I can use the springs for sure but I'd like to use the whole setup. From searching, it seems the 987 shock to hub hole is larger but other than that I'm not sure what fitment issues I'll have. Thanks.
