My understanding is they only save 5 lbs and are much more difficult to keep clear compared to glass. Am I missing anything?

They are a lot safer when installed correctly. Impact resistance is why I installed one in my car...

I have this one here:
http://www.fivestarbodies.com/store/...product&id=591

After a season and a half with no tearoffs it is fairly pitted. I have a new one waiting to be installed once I finally get around to it. But, keeping it clean is good incentive to stay in front!

I am maybe. I don't know much about them but I think there is one that's thick so it doesn't flex or require bracing and you can use wipers. I think. I was going to think about this over the winter as my NEW windshield is cracked a bit.

^ Captain maybe, yup, ur correct.... the thicker 1/4" option doesn't need bracing for deflection/distortion at speed. Then again, can we actually go that fast? Coating (available with both Shields and 5star) allows use of wipers.

the coated and anti-fog Shields brand on my SPB is holding up well, but does distort at high speeds. It can save a little weight, but my installer used thirty pounds of silicone to mount it so watch out for that.
