We're still in the prototype phase and don't know the costs involved yet, but it's going to be reasonable and built to last. Below is a teaser video of the prototype of the non-resonated version, as well as a photo of our prototype bracket. The tubing is going to be mandrel bent in one piece out of 304L, and the only weld will be at the flange to meet to the header which will be properly back purged/TIG welded. The bracket will be clamped to the exhaust (we've seen a lot of failures from brackets welded to the tubing or resonators/mufflers) and have a great deal of adjustment to relieve stress before tightening it down. Please ignore the spacers and such, we're still fine tuning the positioning.

Otherwise, the exhaust welds or the header flanges will break, no matter how robust they appear.

The setup I use has cat bypass pipes that allow the stock muffler, straight pipes or lightweight race mufflers to be fitted between the bypass pipes and the stock mounting location. This has the advantage of keeping heat away from the transmission, and enabling quick swaps between the straight pipes and the race mufflers.
When you have some time please give me a ring at 484 883 6197. I'd like to chat about the various exhaust and mounting setups you've run previously

I have had good luck at Lime Rock on muffled days running a straight exhaust with a Supertrapp attached on both banks.

+1 on the need for a flex pipe or spring type hanger, we've seen systems crack when there isn't, and have even seen headers crack too as a result of no spring.

Our 986 Spec Boxster Race Exhaust is now available!

FITMENT: All Porsche 986 Boxster vehicles with manual transmission (1997-2004)

WEIGHT SAVINGS: 24.8 lbs / 11.2 kg less than factory exhaust components (14.7 lbs vs 39.5 lbs)

DEVELOPMENT: Several Spec racing teams and shops including our development partner, Brandywine Motorwerks, have been seeking an exhaust solution that is durable enough for racing use as existing systems on the market and DIY solutions have been known to fail. We set out to build the most durable system possible while being cost effective and minding weight. A lack of resonance damping in a 986 exhaust system for competition use can cause metal fatigue in the factory headers, resulting in cracking. We crafted bespoke, adjustable brackets to mount the exhaust to the transmission to match movement of the drivetrain to the exhaust opposed to hard mounting to the body. Silicone dampers are also included as part of the brackets to help absorb vibrations. Clamps are not welded to the piping to prevent fatigue and provide easy / efficient replacement – the only welds in the entire system are in the flanges to the headers and every weld is back purged for maximum weld strength and durability. The brackets and tailpipes are adjustable for the best possible fitment. The tailpipes are easily replaced in the event of collision damage. 2″ straight piping keeps exhaust velocity high and weight down. Sound attenuating components like resonators are decidedly absent to reduce weight and complexity as PCA Club Races are not hosted on sound limited days. Should decibel limits be considered for other competition series or HPDE events on sound restricted tracks, alternative solutions can be used. The end result is a race bred system that will hold up to the stresses of racing and last until you podium – and beyond.

CONSTRUCTION: Each system is made in-house by our fabrication team from mandrel bent .065″ wall, 2″ diameter T304L stainless steel tubing and laser cut brackets. All welds are back purged for increased longevity under the most extreme conditions. Each exhaust component is then rigorously quality-checked, tested in a fixture to ensure perfect fitment, and then foam packed to ensure it arrives in perfect condition. New high grade hardware is included.

LIFETIME WARRANTY: We warranty this system in full both the street and track under our Lifetime Warranty! Our team will quickly work with you to resolve any issues or answer any questions that you may have. The only exclusion is damage to the system caused by variables outside of our control, such as getting a love tap in the rear or embracing a barrier.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT?:
This race exhaust will trigger a check engine light due to removal of factory catalytic converters and deletion of the secondary o2 sensors. If this is bothersome, some race shops servicing SPB cars recommend turning off the CEL via removal of the CEL bulb.

MSRP: $1,295

With no mufflers or resonators, that system’s going to be loud as hell. In our experience out here on the west coast, exhaust systems with no sound attenuation will not pass the sound restrictions we typically race at, ~103 dB. Your comment, “PCA Club Races are not hosted on sound limited days”, is not 100% accurate.

Ok, I'll be the douche.

I'm disappointed with the pricing. two flanges, 6 feet of pipe, 4 muffler clamps, and a simple bracket for $1,300 is not a value proposition for me. I get its mandrel bent and you have some development costs, but this pricing just makes me want to go do it myself.

Keep in mind these have a warranty. I’ve spent more than the sticker price of Soul’s exhaust repairing cracked ‘homemade’ solutions, never mind the disappointing DNF’s

I'll blame that one on the east coast guys I work with, news to me on the west coast haha. That said we do have plans for a resonated version, the holdup during the R&D process was the availability of quality resonators in this particular exhaust diameter. We've ordered some custom ones which should be available in a couple months in order to accommodate development of a resonated version of this system. I expect we'll have turndowns on the end of the resonated system as well. We can easily add turndowns to the end of this system, though how much that'll actually help pass sound restrictions will depend on the track and where/how the sound is recorded.

Haha no hard feelings my friend, we are not under the illusion everyone is going to supportive of paying an exhaust manufacturer for a system. In fact, we fully support DIY projects. Heck, we have as much fun doing that on the weekends with our personal cars as we do developing systems on a production scale. If you're up for the challenge, have it my friend and if there is anything we can do to support you please feel free to ask. Our pricing is appropriate for the loaded costs of the system as a production unit, and yes we'd like to make a little something while offering a well developed system to the community that has a no excuses no bull**** lifetime warranty for track abuse, and we're not going to give it away. That said I see you aren't very far off from us in Clifton, NJ. I'd like to extend you an open invite to come visit our facility any time. I'd be happy to walk you through our R&D and production process from start to finish on this system, and I'll run you through all the costs involved in making it and how we determine the MSRP of the product. You'll receive transparent, firsthand insight into the exhaust industry if you're up for it, and lunch/dinner on me

I'd imagine those DNFs were more painful than the price repairing the exhaust you were running. I appreciate you chiming in. I don't suppose you're at Sebring this weekend for the Club Race are you? I'm catching a flight down now, I'll cheer you on out there and buy you a beer when the track goes cold haha.

Best regards,
John Gaydos

I’m not at Sebring, but I believe your exhaust is being bolted up to my car as we speak. Have fun!

Are you guys still making this exhaust? And did you ever come up with a resonated version with turn down tips for the West Coast, POC/PCA where I am? Thx
