I have a problem with that statement. The performance must be as near equal to the pss9 as possible. While it may be less $$$ for you building the car you were going to have spend the money anyway. I don't have any need to buy new shocks particularly since mine were relatively recently refreshed at Bilstein. Allowing you the ability to get a better shock than the other hundred plus existing cars isn't actually fair or right.

I've heard that no one wants to 'dumb down' their shocks to PSS9 levels, so it may well turn out that we'll all have to upgrade to the new supplier to remain competitive...hope that's not the case.

I would hate that, I purchased a set in Europe less that 6 months ago. I followed the rules and it cost just over $ 2,800.00

The only issue you have with buying a Bilstein outside the US is there is no US warranty. MCS would be a great choice for a Spec shock...

Whatever they do if they make the switch the existing SPB racers should be offered the shocks at cost.

The shocks are the most expensive parts of these cars, to switch em out needs to be done thoughtfully.

Who is testing the options? I havent heard anything on that and would expect west coast to be involved in that as well

Spec Miata recently switched from Bilstein to Penske dampers. Mazda's are not subject to the Porsche tax so with the help of Mazda Motorsports they secured a very nice deal for purchases and service:

Parts will be available exclusively through Mazda Motorsports with a total cost for conversion; including four shocks, top mount, bump stops and lower spherical mounts for less than $1,050. Unlike the current Spec Miata shock, the Penske will be tamper-proof, and rebuildable through Penske at$100/shock.

I would think MCS single adjustable shocks would be the way to go- this is the same damper we use in Spec E46.

Great support from the team at MCS, not to mention they're located in the United States and rebuilds are done in Georgia. The MCS staff are typically found walking around the paddock at most BMWCCA races and are always willing to help. I would think your current PSS9 springs, hats, and collars would work too.

I've got a nearly new set of PSS9 on my HPDE Boxster, they have been to the following HPDE events:

Installed Nov 2018
3 days at VIR Nov 2018
2 days at Sebring Dec 2018
2 days at Roebling Jan 2019
1 day at The FIRM Jan 2019
Going this weekend to Sebring for 2 days

I am loving them (shaved off time at all tracks I have been to compared with the previous M030 suspension).

Moving forward, I am looking for a 2009 base Cayman 6 speed (no tan interiors) to build into my next HPDE car and when I find one I am going to put the Boxster back to stock and sell it. Since I can't move those PSS9 over to the Cayman, I will be offering them up for sale at that time (whenever that is, not having any luck finding a car). However, I didn't realize people were blocked on their SPB builds due to lack of suspension, if someone wanted to trade me a set of Ohlin's Road and Track (same sku for 986/987), I would take the PSS9 off immediately and trade. I can run the R&T until such time as I find a Cayman, and then I can transfer the, over to the new car.

I know this is a very specific scenario, but maybe it will help someone out that needs to get unblocked?
