This 1997 993 ECU has a Protomotive program that is similar to a EURO ECU in
a very important way. It does not monitor SAI flows or throw a CEL if your SAI
ports are plugged. The ECU also has 91 octane performance tune. It will work on any Vario Ram 993 from 1996 to 1998.

There are two ways of doing this.

1. Flash the ECU (if it is a true 97 - 98 ECU)

2. Put a piggyback chip on the 1996 ECU and flash that.

There is a huge problem with the piggyback chip. It comes loose and your car
will die. Ask me how I know. My 97 came with the older 1996 style ECU and I
got the piggyback chip. It lasted about 800 miles. That's when I bought this
true 1997 ECU and had it flashed.

If you think $1,490 is too much you have not studied your options.

1. You can do a flush, costs $800. Lasts two years max and then you pay

again. Ask me how I know.

2. Motor out service to really get the gunk out. $7,000 min.

3. Buy a real 1997 or newer ECU and pay $1,300 for the Protomotive program.

Do you know if it fit the original 3800 cc engine?
cheers

The original engine is 3.6 liter. That is what this ECU is for.

Do you have a US spec car or a EURO spec car?

I have no idea if the EURO spec cars have the same connector.

My guess would be no.

I'm interested. I have a 97 c2 ....but I'm most interested in the tune? Do you feel there's a good amount of performance unlocked ?
