I just bet that the SRS crowd won't be able to contain themselves!
This video is about the 718 Spyder, particularly a manual transmission version, it does not throw the SRS under the bus, it is more about how this car stands on it's own with a configuration that is somewhat unique these days. But they will come, tell us that it needs the GT3 engine, an ear splitting intake and a computer shifted PDK to even be considered special. I (and many others) think that this is tunnel vision, the SRS is very cool but in my opinion it is different not better.
That’s the nice thing about choice. One can choose the Spyder or the SRS. Your comment can go the same for all the folks that talk smack about PDK and no manual. That’s a nice Spyder in the video. Can’t go wrong with either one, just depends on what you want.

Then don't do this, comment about the Spyder in the absence of the SRS, there is no need to compare the two, as you say you have the choice of which to own.
In my opinion a manual 718 4.0 is a forever car ... Spyder is far far prettier than its Boxster sister.
My Boxster GTS 4.0 has cured my car buying/selling disease ... completely
It's a shame that they add on all that lovely BCFabs hardware, and then just keep the boring stock muffler. That is a travesty imo. But I realize they still probably want some valving operation, and potentially have to have some track volume limits in place too. The tone could just be so much better. I never thought I could get a Spyder, and living in MN makes it tough for me. I know some folks who have them and love them, but they have more than just 2 cars to rotate between (one of them has 2 Spyders to rotate between - lucky duck)! I would agree that the Spyder would definitely be a great forever car, but I can say the same for my manual GTS too. Especially since I got to spec it out on my own and go for some harder to come by painted interior bits that I'll probably never find again in a GB color. Drive on 4.0 group!
I really love mine and hope it will be my forever car. First Porsche I ordered and specced from factory (a few options I’d add/change if I could go back), but very satisfied overall. I keep tinkering with it as I’ve done with my previous cars, trying to improve it to suit my taste and desire.
Always wanted a 991.2 GT3 Touring, and will get one some day; but it will be along the Spyder. Don’t want to let the Spyder go.
At a certain point I’ll do shorter gears for the Spyder and drop some more weight (lighter two piece rotors and probably lithium battery).
I had never planned for my Spyder to be a forever car, or any car for that matter. However, there is just nothing to replace it with. There is no car that gives everything my Spyder does and does it all better.

I think that pretty much sums it up! Until there is a replacement - continue to enjoy a great platform Porsche gave us and pretty much perfected by the end of the line!
Drove a buddy's PDK Spyder and loved it! Confirmed my order for the SRS that afternoon. SRS is awesome, but I keep thinking how good the Spyder was and that its also available with a manual. Incredible combination that I'd be really happy to own. Agree with above sentiments that you can't really go wrong with any of the 718 4.0 cars.
