Default The dreaded COV

Deposit placed on a 2012 out of state and a Overheating light came on when owner was driving yesterday. Scanner reflected faulty COV, unfortunately for all parties car cannot get into shop until next week and my flight cancelled to p/u and drive back has now been cancelled. I assume based on past threads here that this can be resolved, however there does appear to be some complications and a process of elimination as there are 7 COV's back there. Want the car but puts all parties in a position of waiting for the fix and IMO a period of driving the car to make sure another warning doesnt come up.

? for those that have been through this I welcome any thoughts and considerations. I trust the right thing to be done, however not familiar with how many Indy shops can properly diagnose and correctly fix the problem in a timely fashion. Coming out of air coolers I just don't know how prevalent these problems are to get taken care of so I don't chase the problem when in my possession by chance. I will stress the owner is forthright and will do the right thing as my dealing with them have been positive through the entire process thus far. TIA

Mine had a cooling system warning message come and went, but the car drove fine for months. At one point, there were even coolant leaks almost after every drive, but then mysteriously stopped. Then, once the temp gage climbed above normal level and the fans were super loud, which I shut it off immediately. A couple of hours later, I restarted it and it ran fine and continued to do so for months after. I checked the cooling reservoir and it's at the correct level every single time. But I decided to take it into my indy, and they replaced all of the water hoses since they saw coolant stains and signs of heavy wear (2012 w/ 95k miles), the thermostat, and flushed the system. The bill came out to about $4k, but the car drives perfect now and no more signs of coolant leaks.

that sucks had a simular experience but in my situation the car was able to be driven. Good thing too because i was coming from Dallas where i bought the car and coming back to Austin. freaked me out. Depending on the sympthoms is where the problem is. But since you say you have a good experience with seller i would not worry about it too much. It can be as simple as a replacement of cov or a loose vacuum hose (which was the case with mine- see a couple posts down under my username. Some pics of my issue):

or it could be more but sounds like you are in good hands. I understand the timing sucks. But be patient (hard to do when you had it all planned out and ready for the new ride) .. .believe me i understand but it will be worth it. Good luck

It's a pretty easy fix - most likely it's the heater core COV. - I could probably do one in my garage in about 1-2 hours.

A scan tool will not pin point to any specific COV as they are daisy chained with a vacuum line. Most likely you would only get the coolant fault message and various symptoms such as no heat exhaust note change are a few common ones. If getting Overheating warnings and high temperatures they need to diagnose the cooling system specifically. You didn’t notice any leaks? My coolant reservoir leaked and I had coolant dripping by the drivers side exhaust when I had the overheat. Bummer for the weekend but they should figure it out and you won’t have to pay for the repairs.
