Default Windshield PPF and Wipers

I had an XPEL windshield film installed on the car before I took delivery - so far after 6 months it’s saved my windshield from a few nasties on the freeway - but I notice it makes my wipers skip when it rains. Couldn’t find a ton of info on what people are doing to address this on windshield PPF film.

I did notice though that if I spray the windshield down with wiper fluid the slipping stops - for like 10 wipes. Thinking about putting rain x or cerakote on - but I think the traditional wisdom is to not put ceramic on windshields because it causes this problem.

Anyone have any experience before I go experimenting?

It is what it is, but when cleaning the windshield I’d use a ceramic detailer like Gyeon. Go heavy. Also periodically apply a fresh ceramic coating to the film like Gyeon View or Nextzett’s windshield coating which even a Cro-Magnon person such as myself can apply with ease!

I experienced this same exact thing. First drive through heavy rain, and wipers kept skipping.

Good to know it’s not just me and there’s a potential solution.

That's interesting. I had my windshield done with XPEL and have never had a skipping / chattering issue. I do believe my windshield PPF was ceramic coated along with the wiper blades. Darien Detail in CT did the work.

We can drive these in the rain? I might have to try that!

My PPF windshield protection has paid for itself multiple times. I have had several hits on the windscreen which would've easily cracked the lightweight glass - but with the protection I'm safe.

By the way, have you guys noticed that the wiper fluid tank leaks fairly significantly when driving.

Has anyone removed/replaced their windshild protection film? I have read someone had to remove his and the lightweight windshield cracked in the process. It defeats the purpose of having the film.
