Default Cruise Control Acting Weird

On rare occasions I'll use cruise control on the interstate. Over the years I'd notice that the cruise would occasionally disengage while going over a bumpy overpass etc. More recently the cruise is working less and less. Today after engaging the CC on the stalk, the green light illuminates as usual. But, if setting speed while going uphill (requiring throttle) CC won't engaged. If setting going downhill, it will engaged and work unless I try to accelerate with CC stalk, or if the car then is going uphill requiring throttle, it disengages. I recently changed brake pads and rotors, no other work. No aftermarket LED tail lights as far as I know. Any ideas where I should start digging?

Thanks,
TD
