Default Metallic Plastic on 6MT **** Loose

Has anyone else had a problem with the Metallic Plastic portion on 6MT **** becoming loose (see image below)?

Mine clicks in when pressing on it and now occasionally does this when shifting into gears 1/3/5. This started happening after I took the car in for service. Are there any known fixes other than replacing the entire **** and boot?

I may have answered my own question with more searching:

I’d still be curious if anyone here knows of a fix other than a brand new **** and boot.

Mine popped out a couple months ago. Snapped it back in place, but it is noticeably loose. I'd recommend replacing it with an aftermarket shift **** instead of another OEM one.

I had mine replaced under warranty, but it is starting to click and feel loose again. I’m not going to replace with oem since it’s bound to happen again. When it gets worse I’ll try epoxy

Is there another OEM shifter that would work well as a replacement?
I’d prefer not to go with an aftermarket option, if possible.
For example, would a 992 GT3 shift ****, or something similar, be compatible?

Mine clicked as well, I replaced it with one from a GT3.

My 981 did this and I fixed it by removing the silver trim and repairing one the the inner clips that had bent with PlasticWeld by J-B Weld.

Yep. I have a thread on here as well. I have yet to bring it in. I did pull it back and add some super glue but it did not help. Super annoying. Makes me want a PDK

Superglue is too thin to make good contact for this piece, you need a thick adhesive or 3M UHB double sided trim tape on thoroughly cleaned surfaces.

As for the PDK comment, I would opt for hockey tape wrapped round the **** before going that route!

Spoiler

I'd go with the 992 6MT shift **** in a second if they made one with red lettering. The yellow lettering works well in a car with yellow stitching and/or a yellow marker on the steering wheel.

As it stands, I'm leaning toward first trying to repair my original **** with some 3M Emblem & Plastic Adhesive unless someone thinks there's a better type of adhesive to use.

Nothing like putting the cheapest piece of the car on the object you touch 100 times when you drive. I've had 2 of the OP's and they both felt cheap. In the current car the wrap is leather and somehow it feels better and is more snug. If it because a pop can, I'll replace it with one like @Westcoast 's

You can go with ST one with white lettering (though in leather and not alcantara) for the same price as GT3’s.

I’ve bought the aluminum one offered on GTS models to go with the aluminum trim and it doesn’t feel bad, feels more robust than plastic one.
