New mufflers on 1982 - fabricate? Sources?
I have searched here for info but see very little about replacing mufflers on early cars. It seems OEM mufflers are either made of unobtainium or are prohibitively expensive like Borla. I have a loud exhaust - not because there are holes in the pipes or mufflers but I think most of the internal baffling has collapsed. Are there practical aftermarket solutions to cat back exhaust? I must retain cat in Colorado. I'm not afraid to spend money but I try to do it wisely. Does anyone have pictures of their muffler replacements?
Thanks,
Pete

You can get this from Magnaflow to replace your Y and it has a cat. I have the Borla from the catback. If you watch for sales, you can get discounts from Hottexhaust which is running a 20% deal on Magnaflow right now.

Thanks, I am looking for everything downstream of the cat. And Hottexhaust doesn't list Porsche as a make they have parts for. But they do have good SS mufflers for DIYers.

I misunderstood and thought you needed to replace both the y and the exhaust. Hottexhaust only sells the Y with cat. But if you are looking for a cat back ..... Borla is the way to go.

Bite the bullet and get the Borla. Have them on both my 928s. They fit right, sound good, don't have drone. PO had a magnacloe setup on my car that made it undriveable at 2,000 rpm with drone that actually vibrated the windows.
Here's what a Borla sounds like but with a catless Y-pipe
