Default Radar detector and Dashcam both wired to prewire?

How do I wire a dashcam (non-oem) and a radar detector both to the pre-wire for a dashcam. I am sure there are some who are more knowledgeable than I who can make it easy to understand. Any help would be appreciated. FWIW I have a 992 Turbo S cab if it makes a difference.

Also would be interested in any cab owners have put a 2nd camera in to capture the rear-view by positioning a camera by the rear-view mirror that captures the inside of the car as well as behind the car as much as possible.

There's a thread here that's about 10+ pages long answering your question. Google search rennlist.

I installed a rear camera in my 991.2 cab. I fashioned a small box out of aluminum foil in the shape and dimensions of the camera. Attached it temporarily to the rear window to see if it would be crushed when the top was opened. It wasn't and running the power line was easy.

Added a rear camera to my 2022 Targa 4 GTS and it worked beautifully. Cable ties held the power line to the opening and closing mechanism with no issues.

Its all about "the art of creativity. I may not be there yet, but I’m closer than I was yesterday".

Great idea on the rear cab camera, I want to set one up but was afraid of it being crushed too. Care to elaborate on running the wire to the back camera?

The prewire connection provides a ground, constant 12 v and switched 12v.

I have both a radar detector and a dash cam connected to the ground and switched 12v.

The Porsche dash cam uses 12v - most aftermarket dash cams operate at 5v.

if u r using an aftermarket dash cam operating at 5v u will need to use a 12v to 5v converter to reduce the voltage feeding the dash cam.

I made a harness that connects to the prewiring to make this connection easier.

Below are the pinouts and the connector u will need to make this happen.

YoJeffo, fantastic information and ideas regarding the rear window attached camera on the cab, thank you. I too would love to know how you ran the wire for the rear camera if you have the time.

Audi4T, I have read a lot of your stuff and wanted to ask you directly due to your knowledge and ability to relay that knowledge in a way I, and others, can understand. I say I wanted to ask you directly but I could not DM you for some reason, so I hoped you would see my question and respond, thank you very much for doing so. Can I ask what type detector you use? I will likely knock on your door here to ask more questions in the future if I can figure out how to DM, or will ask here. Either way, thank you for all your guidance here, and in your other posts, and thank you in advance for your guidance in the future.

Hi

i I am currently using the Uniden R8 and a 70Mai dash cam.

The radar detector is supported by a mirror mount and the dash cam is on the windshield

When I had a cabriolet I installed the Porsche dash cam but I have the 70Mai in my coupe

The 12v to 5v converter will fit behind the cab overhead panel but it’s tight - u can tuck it behind the headliner - this device is small and u can get them on Amazon with the 5v usb mini connection already attached

DC-DC 12V to 5V 3A Micro USB...
Amazon Amazon

I use an Escort M1 Dashcam and a Uniden radar detector with a Blendmount mirror mount. The M1 is powered by a 12V wiretap and the M1 powers the Uniden. Blendmount sells all the mounts and attachments you need. The Escort M1 is not the fanciest dashcam but it gets the job done and is a nice clean install.

I have been very happy with the appearance/performance of the FitcamX, which I installed using a thread I found on here (link below). Between using the included y-adapter for this camera, and a MirrorTap (from Blendmount) for my V1gen2, I wound up not even using the "pre-wiring for Porsche Dashcam" plug that I had also opted for in my build(thereby eliminating the need for a voltage converter). FitCamX also sells a package with a rear-facing cam, but I went with the front-facing only.

This looks great as if it came that way from the factory.
