I have two fuel relays, neither work. One original and one replacement. I popped them open to check them out. Has anybody rebuilt these before? They seem relatively simple unless the IC has a problem. I'm kinda surprised the solder joints aren't better, unless somebody else has already been in them. I may just reflow everything and see if it makes a difference.

what usually kills them is water/ corrosion, water leaking from the blower box,
or low voltage this makes the contacts arc then they eventually stop passing current,
or too much force used to install and remove them

I would try to reflow them. I have fixed many many relays with this simple trick. Also look for broken traces. As for the 928 relay, it uses a simple 555 IC as a timer, You 'could' reproduce that quite easily if you understand electronics. Ohm out the coil, measure the resistance of the resistors, check that the diodes do diode things, and see if the caps are open or shorted. If all those are good, replace the 555.

Do you happen to know what resistance the coil should be producing? The original coil is 57 ohms and the newer one is 87. Granted they are different coils, just wasn't sure what they are supposed to be returning.

I dont know but any so long as it's not an open circuit I'd call it good in this case.

I've found the relays from these cars, and from 944/968 cars, to be pretty questionable. Reflowing is a good idea, as is dressing the contacts. I have found the contacts to be crooked and somewhat burnt in some cases.
