Default PPF or Nano ceramic

hi
i am expecting my cayenne to arrive within the coming 2 months ,
i had PPF on my current cayenne and my experience so far was good and bad , its for sure protect the car from serious scratch's but i feel that the day to day watching affects does appear more than any normal car ( specially dark )
one of my friend has exactly the same car with no PPF and his paint looks more shiny and no washing circles ( tiny scratch's ) is noticeable
i wounder if any one has same experience and what does nano ceramic does better in this case ?

thanks

PPF with Ceramic if you want to double down. I have full front PPF on Moonlight Blue. I treat the PPF with the same care as the unprotected painted surfaces and find the PPF holds up well with no signs of halos or scratches. I always hand wash. It's only been about a year so far for the PPF but very pleased. You can always polish the POF using care.

If you're seeing swirls in the ppf, you're probably doing it wrong and there's absolutely no way your paint would be better off exposed. Ceramic will not protect your paint. At best it hardens the surface for a short period of time. The hardening may help resist swirls, but it won't prevent them particularly if you're not practicing good washing techniques. Modern ppf self heals, has ceramic embedded and shouldn't show swirls unless you're taking steel wool to it for cleaning. Have you ever looked into the two bucket method? Maybe a nice powerwasher and foam cannon?

PPF is for impact damage like rock hits

Ceramic handles non impact stuff like bird droppings

They each have their uses, but one doesn’t replace the other.

I just put PPF on my 718 RS and the finish and maintenance is outstanding.

If properly installed and maintained the PPF should look as good or better than non PPF

+1

PPF definitely has proven itself over the decades and the main thing that’s important is it needs proper maintaining as well

if garaged, you’ll get more life out of the film

hand washing and applying a ceramic spray sealant is crucial

routine professional cleaning 1-2x per year is highly recommended

not much different than if one were to care for their paint 👌

+1 on the need / benefit of properly maintaining PPF in order to get the best appearance and life from the product.

I recently completed polishing the PPF (Xpel) on my air cooled 911. The PPF on it is about 9 years old.

After carefully polishing it, I ceramic coated it.

I have full front ppf and ceramic after paint correction. Looks fantastic, easy to clean. Handwash only.

I have an incoming GTS in Carrara White Metallic. I will probably keep it ~5 years but will be kept outside (no garage). I live in NJ in a rural area (gravel roads, bird crap, tree sap, etc.) and am wondering if the investment of full PPF is worth it...?

I don't know if it's an issue now, but when I lived in NJ, acid rain was a big problem. It would acid-etch the paint.

Are you asking about full PPF versus front only PPF, or full PPF versus no PPF?

I too just picked up a CPO 2024 Cayenne in Montego blue. I had the dealer do the full front PPF from the same local PPF shop that is top rated in this area (north of Boston). they did a great job. Question is, should I bother to ceramic the rest of the vehicle? the local PPF shop says I should ceramic over the PPF and do the rest of the car in ceramic also. Seems overkill? thoughts?

Acid rain really isn’t an issue in my neck of the woods, but certainly road salt in the winter. I suppose I am asking about full PPF vs front PPF vs no PPF and if the former two worth the investment if I’ll be looking to trade in roughly 5 years.

I don't think it's overkill at all. PPF can easily be acid-etched by bird poop. If it etches into the surface, no amount of polishing will remove it. Ceramic will make cleaning the vehicle much easier.

You may investigate the option to do the ceramic yourself. There are some really excellent products available that are not difficult to apply. GTechniq Crystal Serum LT is one of them.

I recently did my Cayenne and it turned out great. (Wheels also.) Very easy to clean now.

I think it would depend on how picky you are about the appearance of your vehicle.

If it was my GTS, I absolutely would do it, especially under the circumstances you've conveyed about your car being kept outside.

I did exactly that. Full front ppf and full ceramic over entire vehicle. Happy with the result.
