Default Tire Advice Please

I hate to post this repeat of a question but I can't decide on tires and was hoping for some advice from the RL pros on my 2010 GT3. I got PS4S fitted when I first got the car and they have been great over 4-5 years, it's time to replace them. I am considering Cup2's or another set of PS4S. The car won't be tracked or a daily, just plenty of spirited back roads, canyons driving. I average about 2-3k miles annually thru the late Spring, Summer and Fall months. On occasion temps can be in the low 50's in the mornings. Car has seen rain 3-4 times, of course I back off big time in these rare instances. I am familiar with PS4S, I like the durability/wear pattern and in higher speed longer radius corners it feels great. However, in tighter radius corners ~30 mph it seems to slide / understeer a bit in the front on occasion. I understand there are many other factors that can lead to this like corner entry speed, driver error, alignment, suspension set up, limited slip diff (I just got NPR installed) etc. Car was just aligned, I will try to post those specs as I am away from the paperwork as I post this. This is my main reason for interest in the cup 2's. I am eager to see if the cup 2's are THAT much better for lateral grip on the street. But, I am also a little concerned about the described ease of temp loss in cup 2's, heat cycling which idk if that will be an issue off the track and durability. Thanks

I'd stick with the PS4S. I basically have the same driving patterns as you. When I bought my car it came with brand new Cup2's and as soon as they are toast I'm going 4S's. I don't think street driving can capture the full potential (even on a hot day with the tires heated up) to see a huge difference in upside with the Cup2's. If my car saw any mixed track/street use then I would go Cup2's.

If the car is never going to see the track then PS4S is fine. Cup 2 have much more grip than PS4S, even on just canyon driving you can notice it big time. With cold weather and rain Cup2 are pretty bad

Good alternative that myself and few friends have used, Nankang CRS, good grip, way more heat cycles than cup2, cheaper and is still a 200 treadwear tire.

PS4S. You may consider running 245s instead of 235s up front to reduce understeer. I always had this setup until a few weeks ago when I decided to revert back to 235s. I found the increase in understeer to be quite noticeable and will revert back to 245s.

I would stick to the PS4S. I don't really enjoy driving the cup2 on the road. Most of the time they are below their optimal temperature, and they feel a little wooden when they are cold. I'm sure you can get them up to temp on a canyon run, but that leaves a lot of normal driving time where they are not warm. The Bridgestone RE71RS comes in a 305 19" size now. I run those for autocross with a 255 front tire. I will say the 255 front is REALLY hard to mount on stock wheels, and your installer might enjoy the 245 size better. I think I would choose the Bridgestone over the cup2 personally, but I also have a set of pilot super sports that I use for street driving.

For low speed push you can try carefully increasing your trail brake, or softening up your front sway bar one setting and see how you like that.

I prefer having Cup 2s. The ride isn’t really any worse. I just switched from PS4S to Cup 2s. I know I won’t be able to use the full potential of Cup2s on streets. I just like how they seem to have better road feel and possibly better grip during spirited drives.

I have driven Cup2s in pretty bad rain before, and they were fine. Just gotta be extra careful.

I do live in a warmer climate area. So that might be something to keep in mind

The PS4S pick up less rocks, give me more confidence in the rain and the performance exceeds my ability on public roads...so obviously I run Pilot Sport Cup 2 because I always have to be ready for a race

I run the Cups because I hate the way the PS4's look on the rear wheels. I'll sacrifice for the looks.

Cups look way better, handle better, most importantly stiffer sidewall gives you more feedback in the steering, IMO.
PS4S feel soft in comparison IMO. I did not like them at all on my car, steering feel was definitely less (again IMO)
Last thing, Cups do not fluctuate temps on a hot day like PS4S.
Tried them both, my situation is similar to yours, obviously I prefer the Cup 2's.

Is it the rim protector on the ps4s that makes you hate the look?

It is exactly that. Bugged the hell out of me and even more so that the fronts looked like totally different tires than the rears as the front tire bead wasn't as pronounced. I also learned something back in the day when I was trying to get that 18" look with my 19's. If you buy Cup 2's non N spec, they will have that rim protection bead. I had to return them and reorder N spec Cups the first time.

I opted to stick with what I know and got the PS4S, but 245 up front this time. Thanks to all for chiming in...
