Default Uniden Updates

So for the first time since 2019 I have a 911 car at my summer home. This one has the Uniden R3 and it hasnt been updated since purchase. Went on the Uniden site, downloaded the updater app and its super easy to run. Only thing is you need a Mini USB like a DSC cable. I really think for the $$ the R3 beats my V1-2 except for arrows. Arrows are nice but Ill take the smaller package and 1/2 the price for more than enough warning time, infact the R3 is so long on Ka I end up muting it long before I see the threat.
Carry on.

Yeah, Uniden makes good products. I had one in the past and it worked really well. I gave it to a friend in exchange for a new Ruger 30-06, but that’s another story!

I’ve always been an Escort guy and I’m really happy with their products. The 360 MAX Ci has arrows and different color warning lights for front or rear threats, which is nice. I recently added Apple CarPlay to my PCM 3.1 head unit. This allows me to run the Drive Smarter app, which displays radar warnings right on the PCM screen. I don’t know if Uniden detectors are compatible with Drive Smarter, but it’s worth a look.

I use the Uniden R8, it has been great hardly ever has false readings. Between that and Waze I have had no issues at all on the highway and interstates.

@E Allen hi. I'm looking at an R8 for my 2005 996 Turbo S - how and where did you install your R8? do you use the included suction cup mount? cigarette power point or hard-wire? thanks in advance

I use the R8 and love it. Previously had the V1. I tapped the fuse box at a switched circuit and ran the power feed up around the windshield, tucking it in along the way. Everything is out of sight and I use the suction cup mount. It's a perfect set-up and works extremely well. I find the arrows feature very useful, too.

I use the suction cup mount but just have the wire going to the glovebox plug for now. I like what john-d-ii did and might try that in the future.

4x Porsches, all have been wired through the Mirror power, super easy to tap off the plug up there.

@JG 996T yes i read that online searches. both units loved by users.

There’s $200 difference between R7 and R8. I can see the shape is different, mute button more ergonomic on R8, and R8 supposed to be smarter about learning and muting nearby autos - but not super specific on product pages.
i usually get the latest version devices… anybody experience both R7 and R8?

Were all in here cause were probably Not cheap, that being said I dont see the need to spend 2x the $$ for the 7 or 8 for the same range plus I like the smaller form factor of the 3. I dont believe the V1-2 that I have is better and I lived without arrows since my OG Escort from 1985.

good point, and the R3 is still selling well.

i had the OG Escort in 1985 too! First in my Datsun 280Z then my 928s4.
i sold it in 2001 on ebay. Great device. Thanks for reminding me.
