I have seen lots of videos on how to hardwire your radar detectors and dashcams. I remembered how I hardwired my V1 to 996 on the sun visor connectors 20 years ago and decided to explore a similar path.
What's nice about this setup is, the visor mirrors are powered only if you have the key with you. So even if you forget to turn off your radar by accident, it will not stay on once you walk away from the vehicle.
Difficulty level: 1
Time required: 30 min
Material needed: Cable. For V1,I used RJ11 (old phone cord).
1. Remove the plastic cover then remove two torx screws
2. Disconnect the connector
2. You will have enough space to run a new cable between the windshield and the headliner. The headliner is secured with the torx screws you removed. You can see in the picture below red and blue wires with pins. These are two cables from RJ11.
3. Push these two pins into the connectors from the back. It will be snug.
4. Tape them together. Reconnect the connector. Put the cover back and screw them.
