Default How to fix the horn contacts on the steering wheel

I've done some searches, but can't find exactly what I'm looking for -

My horn works if I take the pad off and touch the wire directly to one of the 3 posts on the wheel - but with the pad on, it doesn't really even move in/out and the contacts never reach... what am I missing to get the pad to contact the posts? Do I need new springs? do those posts adjust in and out?

Assuming all the posts, springs and contacts are ok (looks like they are) and wired up, it should work. You do have to push the horn pad on quite firmly to get it to get all 3 posts seated properly. Once they are, when you push to sound the horn, it should move in about 1/8" (3mm) and the brass contacts will touch

Also try cleaning the posts and contact points - wire brush or even scrape with a pic or screwdriver, worked for me on a replacement OEM steering wheel I recently purchased.

Got my wire brush and cleaned both sides - works like a charm now!

put a small dab of dielectric grease on each tab to stop it arcing and oxidizing. will be good to go for years.
