What are your requirements for usage miles per year and price? Do you DIY or use a dealer/indy shop?

It would be just a car to use during weekends and to add to my other 2 cars…not daily car…no more than 2000 miles for year…
I’m more attracted by 930, but I like a lot 997 turbo and here in Italy is cheaper…

You've gotta go with what your heart tells you but I'd take a 997 turbo any day.
It's more modern and awd but not as large/complex as 991/992, in Italy you can probably deal with the mediocre AC of a 930 but here in FL that's just a deal breaker for me.
I believe the 997 turbos are also very very good looking cars and I was always a fan of the divider strake in the intercooler intakes and outlets.

The 930 will definitely be more primitive, raw and nostalgic without a doubt. They're no longer particularly quick but that’s not really the point.

Thanks. Do you make repairs on your car, or do you hire a workshop for this work?

I have 2 favourite workshops where I usually go.
They both told me they like more 930 😂

I agree with your point.
997 is overall a superior car…but 930 have more personality.

I'd choose a Porsche 997 Turbo. It has a newer turbocharged engine and a more advanced all-wheel-drive system, which means it performs really well but feels much smoother and more refined compared to the 930.

Do you want to crash frontwards or backwards?

So…I’m considering 997 turbo would be the right choice.
I have only some doubts about long term reliability.
I mean: no doubt about Mezger engine (I would look for a MK1 with manual transmission), but I have some doubts about how electronic components will get old.
I would buy the car to keep with me for many years…it’s also true 997 has got some electronic, but not as much as 991 and 992…

Buy the 930 to look at and take to C&C.

Buy the 997 to drive.

Fear of electronics has been around since Bosch L-Jetronic in the 1980s. Look how far things have come from the early 1980s.

Electronics are replaceable, and unavoidable, and are beneficial.

I would not own a Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical injection engine for the reason of avoiding electronics.

As others have mentioned, it comes down to how you plan to use it.

For a weekend pleasure car, I prefer the classic 911s. It’s not so much that a 997 will be difficult to maintain— although it is more complicated— but rather that a 930 is elegant in its simplicity. No dated digital displays/screens. It’s already rare and special on the road. A poster car.

If you prefer decent HVAC in a classic 911, the 964 is an option.

I like the 997, but it’s no longer a modern performance car and not quite the classic of the air-cooled era.

All my opinion. My brother had 2 997s, and I’ve had a 356, 993 and 964. All fun cars.

I can't speak to the turbo models specifically, but I have an '88 Carrera and a 997 C4S. I love the '88 and I'm not ready to sell it, but if I were to sell one of the two, it would likely be that one. The 997 has almost all of the character that the 911 has, but with better safety, reliability, and vastly improved drivability.

I'll just put out there that you could do normally aspirated cars and get one of each

I owned a 997.1 turbo cabriolet and I loved the car. It had a 6-speed manual transmission with the factory short shifter option, as well as the thicker sport steering wheel. In my experience, the 997 turbo was very reliable and it was a pleasure to own.

I think it’s difficult to compare the 997 and the 930. They’re very different cars. I agree with the posts above about how you plan to use the car and the type of Porsche experience that you want. Only you can decide what you want. Personally, I’d buy the 997.
