Default Engine Oil, Transaxle Oil and Transmission Fluid Changes

Sharing with the group the maintenance I do to my 991.1GT3 every other oil change (about every 2K miles I change oil). I drive my car 2-3 days a week and track it as often as I can. car has 51K miles. Some may think this is "too much" maintenance, but I enjoy it, it keeps fluids fresh, and I believe it will likely extend the life of my engine and transmission. I get my fluids from FCP Euro under their lifetime replacement program so it is cost efficient and environmentally sound :-) Enjoy....

Oil change (8 quarts of 0w40 Liqui Moly plus OEM oil filter)
  • Remove engine guard
  • Remove oil filler cap
  • Remove 8mm hex from oil tank and drain
  • Remove 8mm hex (stubby) front sump and drain
  • Remove Oil filter and drain
  • Install new filter
  • Reinstall both drain plugs with new rings
  • Fill oil with amount measured on drain (approx 7 quarts)
Torque specs:

Oil filter: 15 ft-lb, hand plus half turn

Oil Pan: 30 ft-lb

Oil Tank: 22 ft-lb

Final Drive Oil Change (3 liters Liqui Moly 75W90 Fully Synthetic Hypoid Gear Oil)
  • Remove additional underbody cover
  • Remove passenger side Fill plug (8mm) (3), Remove passenger side drain plugs (1) from diff and (2) from final drive
  • Replace seal and tighten (1) diff drain to 10Nm
  • Replace seal and tighten (2) final drive drain to 27 Nm
  • Fill with LM 75W90 until drip
  • Raise vehicle
  • Start engine
  • Engage 1st gear let it turn for two minutes
  • Select Neutral AND WAIT FOR 10 MINUTES
  • If oil runs out, its OK, if not add until it runs out
  • REMOVE 150ml OF FLUID
  • Replace seal and Install filler plug (3) to 27Nm

Drain and Refill PDK Transmission (~3 liters of Pentosin FFL-3)
  • Remove driver’s side Transmission fill plug (1) - you may have to move hoses out of the way - and drain plug (2) capture and measure fluid.
  • Replace seal and tighten drain plug (2) to 15Nm
  • Affix adhesive tape to the seam below fill plug to prevent spill seepage into oil pan
  • Add Pentosin FFL-3 until it emerges from the fill hole, this should be close to what was drained.
  • Replace seal and tighten fill plug to 27Nm.
  • Replace hoses and remove adhesive tape.
  • Replace additional underbody cover and tighten bolts to 2.7Nm
  • Replace engine guard and tighten bolts to 10Nm
Take her out for a spin, recheck oil level on the dash and adjust.

Do you ever send your oil out to be tested to see how it’s performing?

Every time. I have posted that on a separate thread:

I think it is a different fill for these through a banjo bolt and washers. Not sure, hopefully someone with knowledge can chime in.

Fill port for .2 and GT3 RS... I think.

FYI - the gear oil change interval for the Manual is every 96,000 miles

Great post, thanks for condensing all of this in one spot. Should be a sticky.

Do you use a hand pump for the diff/pdk fluids?

I use a hand pump for the Pentosin as it is a regular container. The gear oil has a built in extension tube that works well to fill from the container.

Technically I am changing the diff oil and HALF the transmission fluid every 5K miles. Insurance and fun/easy. I would not recommend waiting that long.

This is a great thread. Does anyone know what Porsche recommends on the PDK flush? Im wondering if mine was done as part of one of the standard annual service packages?

I have not seen an official Porsche "flush" routine nor service interval. I call what I am doing "drain and refill". I am doing this as a preventive measure but not to replace the full PDK service recommended at 96K miles.
