Looking for the right helmet for several track days/year. No competition. I've googled and researched, but more confused then ever...haha.

Any suggestions?

 

Try all of them on and pick the one that feels the best. Make sure it's a 2020 (minimum) so you can use it until 2031.

 

This is not something you should buy online. You should go try on as many as you can to get the correct fit. Then buy the best and most comfortable you can afford as the armco doesn't know it's only a HPDE and you only drive X times a year.

 

What everyone above said - trying on for fit is imperative. If it works for you, the Bell K2 Sport is a good value / high quality helmet.

 

Whats your budget?

I think if you are like me and cheap, you settle for what costs the least, has the appropriate ratings (SNELL 2020) and thats it. If you have some budget flexibility, buy a nicer brand that will be much more comfortable.

MUCH MORE IMPORTANT to invest in a HANS device that will work for your application (hybrid if 3 point).

 

Can't stress enough as others have - go to a race shop and try on every brand including those that are above your budget. There are so many fitment differences, including visibility, comfort, weight, communication and ventilation.

 

As suggested by previous responses , you have to try it on. I would suggest that you leave it on at least 15 minutes. I started racing in the 60s with Bell , my current helmet is a Stilo with built in audio which I really like.

 

I'm going to add my 2 cents to everyone else's comments, I've been buying motorcycle helmets for 30 yrs, they're not fire rated so they're not allowed in cars, when I went to get a car helmet the first thing I did was look up a local racer shop that stocks helmets. The first one I tried on felt terrible, pressure points, view, etc. I tried on 4 different manufacturers helmets and bought the 2nd one I tried on. They all fit and feel different, mc and car helmets, plus the Bell mc and car helmets feel different too. That helmet is everything, find the perfect one for you, be comfortable and happy.

 

If you are new-ish to tracking/HPDE (I don't know if you are or not) I would recommend a helmet with coms built in. It's really nice to not have to shove a mic up in your helmet every time you have an instructor in the car.

 

Don't penny pinch on a helmet for you get what you pay for here.

 

I did my first 5 years of DE with a cheap G-Force helmet. It worked great, was comfortable, and no issues w/ it. Yeah you don't want to cheap out here but they are all tested to SAXXXX standard. Depends on how much you are going to do events and at what level.

 

Where were you with this advice a year ago??!?!

 

x1000 - the one that fits! G force, Bell, Arai, Stilo...all have entry level full face composite helmets for around $500 and they are very similar in safety but different in how they fit. Go try some on and pick the one that is a bit snug today because it will loosen a little as you wear it.

 

As already stated, fit is the most important factor. As I understand it 2015 helmets should be good through 2025. Do your own research, but you might get a really good deal on a 2015. My 2015 has the M6 threaded insert post anchors for a hybrid HANS. The M6 anchors are mandatory for 2020 helmets. I see more and more of the hybrid HANS at DEs. Buy a set of three cheap balaclavas from Amazon. Makes it easier to put the helmet on and helps keeps it clean and dry. I'm happy with my "cheap" G-Force. Built in commo would be nice, but I would not pay a huge premium unless I was an instructor. I bought my own student communicator during COVID. Now solo, but still get an instructor for a new track and when I'm looking for a specific improvement.

 

I bought a Roux helmet from @NaroEscape . They r a vendor here. With some measurements we were able to get the for right the first time and they will exchange helmets if it doesnt fit well.
