I really hate the fat wheel in the Lotus, it reminds me of an even bigger BMW....I don't get why they feel that a super thick steering wheel equates to a good thing? I know many reviewers hammer on the Cayman's exhaust for sounding unappealing vs the previous gen, but some simple fixes and it opens up a lot. I was going to rail against the Emira's exhaust setup, but the second video does make it sound quite nice at speed. I'd just have to budget for a titanium exhaust system straight away in the Cayman and that will fix the differences.

The way I see it, it comes down to pricing. I considered the Emira as a fun car/track day as I was trying to stage an allocation for a Spyder/GT4. When you look at the price and what it brings, it's not competitive in relation to the GTS or even GT4. It is a looker for sure. I believe for that price it needs another 100hp at least to make it competitive.

Expect the British automotive press to be pretty generous with the Lotus. Understandably British cars that are fairly rubbish get at least faint praise by the home team. TVR and Jag I'm looking at you, and to some extend McLaren and Lotus.

I found very distracting Harry using 2 watches. I can't say I like the compressor whine in low gears. The used market will be interesting with two suspensions available.

If it anything like the Evora's evolution, the one to have will be the final "GT" version. The first Evora was alright, the S was better, the 400 was better still, and the GT was amazing. So, wait like 8 years to buy one?

I don't think the Emira will be battery powered, they will need another chassis for that.
I have to admit that as I sit here waiting for my Spyder, I have been casually looking at Evora GTs. They, unlike Porsches, depreciate even in this market so you can get a one-year-old loaded GT for about $10-$15k below MSRP which make them pretty tempting. However, the $12k of exhausts, seat inserts, light-weight battery, and all the other accessories sitting in my garage have held me back although if I came across a BRG with all the options and the right price, I may just go for it.
I honestly think that the Evora GT will hold up better in the long-term than the Emira unless they address its shortcomings. Yes, it is prettier with a better interior and modern assembly lines etc. However, it seems to be missing the driving dynamics--which is the whole point of getting a Lotus. I'm sure over time, the Emira GT with the CF package will be the one purists look for--much like how the Elise has started to go up in value.

I was strongly considering the Emira over the GT4 for a long time. Lower price point even at the highest trim, similar power numbers, supercar looks. And honestly I'm not enough of a skilled track driver to really be able to differentiate the difference in handling with the GT4 vs the Emira. Also they have this dark green color which is just straight....you know.
I still ended up ordering the GT4. I really wanted a DCT and it looks like the V6 Emira only comes in MT or a standard Torque Converter automatic (only the 4-pot comes with a DCT). The customization option for Porsche really is what sold me. The leather interior with the m matching exterior paint bits and the bucket seats. Not to mention its got more storage so its a decent road trip car as well. I like how its more analogue with the interior. As much as I like digital displays, for some reason it also means less buttons.
I still really want to drive an Emira to see what its like, but right now I just can't wait for my GT4 to get here

The reviews were mostly what was expected, IMO. Jethro's review was a little more negative than I anticipated, but at least he's not sugar coating his verdict. The takeaways from Evora vs Cayman reviews have always been kind of similar (interior aside)...Evora was the better damped car and more "pure" in its steering feel etc. But the Cayman was superior in every other aspect. This seems to be more of the same. I have an Emira inbound (for the fall), and feel it will be an interesting addition/experience.

My guess is there will be a lot of order cancellations coming in after the press embargo.
