Default 997.1 TPMS Issues

Hi Guys
So I was driving today, not really pushing it, and at one point the TPMS message came on on the dashboard, saying that the system is learning or something in that regard, and all the pressure readings went blank. At first there was an error on the display(red exclamation mark) and after 10 min the error went away but there is still no pressure reading and the reading on the dashboard is blank. Do you guys have any idea what is going on?
Sounds like a trip to the dealer or indy to get connected to the computer but i would like to hear if you guys have had this happen to you.
Thanks
Kuba

How old are your sensors in the tires? One of the best things about an 05 997 is no TPMS system (optional in 06).

My car is 07 and as far as how old the sensors are, that i am not sure. I purchased the car last year it only has 36K miles, but i would assume that those sensors are not the original ones. I think what is wired is that none of the sensors displaying any pressure, they are all blank, and like said in my message earlier, at first i had an error code, which went away within 10 min???

Yea, you seeing nothing does seem like it's not a sensor issue as you'd lose one wheel reading, but not all of them at the same time.

The sensors last roughly 7 years from my experience. You might want to replace them with each tire change. Beru/Huff 433 MHz

I had a problem with my TPMS as well. If you have your tire sensors checked and they're okay, replace the TMPS sensor in the frunk.

All the suggestions above are spot on. But simplest thing to try is just to do the relearn process and see if it dies again quickly. then you know you need to change them out.
If you dont like the system, any PIWIS system and code this off. Dealer should do it for free I would think...

You'd be surprised how long the battery in a TPMS sensor will last. I purchased my 4Runner brand new in '07 and didn't need to replace the batteries/sensors until I received a warning last year.

OP, the TPMS on our cars is finicky. I would start by making sure the tire pressure is where it should be, then reset the system by using the steering wheel stalk and go to TPC, then Set, then choose your tires and wheel size. It will beep then say it is relearning. Take it for a 10-15 drive and it should clear the low pressure tire light and explanation light, and then a few minutes after that it should start showing the tire pressure readings (which leaves something to be desired). If your tire pressure is adequate and the batteries are OK, you should be good. If you keep getting a warning, it could be time for new TPMS sensors.

One thing to note, if the tires are even one or two PSI down, it can trigger a low pressure warning, usually stating -4 on one or more tire. I usually add one PSI per tire and reset the system until the warning goes away. I feel that the PSI required by the system is higher than it needs to be considering I'm usually alone in my car with no additional weight and that the tires will heat up, and therefore tire pressure will increase, as I drive the car. I try to keep the pressure at the lowest possible level to appease the Porsche TPMS gods.

First of all thanks for all the suggestions and knowledge you guys sheared with me, second of all i knew that there was something funky happening with the TPMS because all 4 sensors went blank at the same time, which sure didn't seam like the batteries went out all at the same time. So after reading what you guys suggested I went for quick drive today, 30 ish minutes or so, within 5 minutes of me driving i got note on the dashboard that tire pressure sensors are in learning mode (or something to this regard) and sure enough 15 min into my drive the pressure on all tire sensors came back on and was in the right range 33-34 on the front and 44 on the back. @MrIncredible i will keep in mind your frunk TPMS sensor in mind as i didn't know that there was one there.

10 psi is a big F/R differential. I would suggest 33/37 or 35/40.

Tire pressures were set by Porsche of Marin when I had to get new tire due to a nail, so I never thought much of it as I figured they set it to Porsche spec, but more i think about it you are right that is pretty big difference.

I have this exact issue and the same story with shops. New OEM sensors, reading one side, now reading none.

Is this the part you got? I have a 07 turbo.

Is there any way to add and program TPMS system on an ‘05 997 to where it will read on dash even though it doesn't have from new?

On my 07C2S, I set fronts to 33 and rears to 38, but the display always says 31 front / 39 rears. Lol.

Just reporting back that I bought a used TMPS module off eBay for $150. It took me about 15 minutes to remove the plastic panels in the frunk, install the module, and put the panels back in. I drove for ~10 minutes around the neighborhood and the TPC light is FINALLY OFF. Thank you so much for posting the solution. Porsche wanted $450+ just to diagnose the issue and I'm sure it would have been a $1000+ when it was said and done.
