Default What cured your Motronic error 21: Air flow sensor

Hi all

About once a month it seems I get a CEL and stumble on startup. It almost always clears with some throttle. Today it persisted and I read the code, attached. I believe this may be associated with my cold start issue, which remains an Unsolved Mystery.

Since my Alfa and 912 are taking all the garage space I need to strategize about this repair and curious to hear from any who solved it. I will follow the factory procedure attached and aware of the 'wiper track' issue and TSB on strain relief at the connector I believe common solutions require cleaning but not parts

Hey all I'm bumping my own thread here as this CEL code came back today when I got on the throttle this morning. Car was warmed up gently around town. Light appeared when I hammered on the gas on the on-ramp. Since I last posted I had the airflow meter on the bench and tested it against one Rob loaned me (said to be known-good). Both tested identically using procedures above. I cleaned the 4 pin connector on both sides and made sure the TSB ziptie thing had been done.

I do have a spare wiper track (from Alibaba) which I did not install as everything looked fine. Besides my cold start problem the car drives well.

These threads are timeless as long as we're still working on stock machines I'll look into a replacement track and this thread improved thanks to you responding!

This might help someone in 2030!

My other observation from many years of 964 ownership is that the connector is the source of the fault code a very muchness of the time. Knock sensor errors are 99% connector problems. My car looked basically good, no surface rust on fasteners etc but bear in mind every single engine bay electrical connection has zero moisture/humidity protection and they're all suspect. Hose it down with deoxit and clean every single groundpoint. I did this meticulously (not hard, no components need to be removed for access) and its paid massive dividends.
