Default How many 991 owners STILL love their aftermarket exhaust

Hello everyone.

I am the happy owner of a base 991. I wouldn't mind it if the car had a little more sound and a little more umph. Reading through the forums, I've kinda gathered that an x-pipe and a tune are probably the best option *or* the gundo hack is great too. That all said, an estute 991 enthusiast gave me the following warning ...

I would give a word of warning about exhaust upgrades and mods. I have never once come across someone that is genuinely happy with their exhaust mod long term on the 991.1. Everyone is happy short term for the first month or so but then gets driven mad by the engine drone and the rattles and odd noises that creep in over time. I would make sure you are certain of what you are doing before jumping in.

So, owners of 991s with modded exhausts who've had your changes in place for some time, do you agree or disagree?

Can't you get OEM PSE added? It sounds fantastic, and obviously is designed for the car.

Had Fabspeed, cats, mufflers, X-pipes, headers, etc. in my 996. Sounded very good, but no where near as good as my 991 S w/PSE.

Had FabSpeed x-pipe and didn't like the sound, I decided to go back to OEM plus disconnect valves. I'm thinking Gundo hack in the fall.

FVD headers + IPD Plenum + iPE f1 exhaust. Make the GT owners ask questions

Full fabspeed valve-tronic exhaust best mod for my car ever. It's the x-pipe mod ( something that CAN'T be turned on / off) that gets you. Some people that only drive a few times a year it doens't matter. Longer term, you'll want to valve it. So it will stay quite sometimes when you want it too. There is nothing like the sound of a 991.1 at full boil with the exhaust open..OMG....

Note to self...drive car today!

If you purchase a quality after market exhaust like Kline, Akra, Tubi, Soul Performance, Europipe (for the TTguys), I don't believe you will have any buyers regrets.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. What I'm gathering is that members who did full exhaust set ups (not just the x-pipe) and/or used some of the more higher end products are chiming in as more satisfied.

BMC filters, IPD, fabspeed catted headers, and Akrapovic exhaust. It sounds like an F1 car with the valves open. With the valves closed it’s a little louder then PSE.

No regrets.

Perfectly happy with the Sport Pckg PSE option. Not too loud to cause unwanted sound and I leave it on 99% of the time.

Wouldn't want to it to be louder, already have had occupational hazard noise affect my hearing. Also, loud exhaust does attract the wrong kind of attention (drive mine every day), like to fly under the radar.

Aggressive and distinctive, without crossing over into obnoxious. Has been perfect for me.

I laugh every time I hear someone in an iconic sports car talk about flying under the radar haha.
