MX72 and cheap rotors (fremax)
Hi
I need new rotors and pads on my 996 c2 cab. Car is DD with ~4h track time a month. Running Pilot super sports and the track is pretty gentle on brakes.
Heard great things about endless mx72 so I want to try them out. But how much does the rotor matter? Noticed there are plenty of expensive options?
Is it short slighted to buy cheap rotors for my application? Vivid racing has fremax for ~$80.
On my race car (Nissan 280zx) I run cheap rotors with agressive racing wilwoods. I just replace rotors every 2nd pad replacement or so. I am fine doing the same on my 996.

It sounds like you are using your car for its intended purpose! This past year (2000 miles, 3 track days), I have used Pagid Rotors (drilled) which are cheap on Rockauto.com, about $45 each. I was fully expecting them to crack or wear improperly. They look great so far and I plan to run them next year until there is an obvious problem.
I am running Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and Pagid Yellow track pads.

A little less than $1000 for rotors and pads, will see if the Endless MX72 are worth it! Almost twice the price.
Can't wait for my Pilot super sport to wear out so I can get some more track friendly DD tires (Ventus RS4), live in Texas so cold is not much of a concern.

That sounds very high. I run Sebro (German) rotors and Pagid pads and think the last set cost well under $500 all in (under $400 for the set of four rotors alone).

Good luck with your experiment.

Yes, please post a review. I tried Pagid Black (great on the track and incredibly loud on the street), and am now on Pagid Yellow (decent at the track, not much noise on the street).

RS19 and RS29 (now called RSL19 & RSL29) are very similar but the 29 will have a bit more bite. Most of our customers use RS29 but some will run RS19 on the rear axle set because they like the release characteristics better. RSL1 and RSL2 have a considerably higher coefficient of friction. Here's a chart for comparison:
