i am testing the waters on selling my 1997 993 targa. I have enjoyed it so much that i am looking to upgrade to a 993 C2S or C4S. if it does not sell, i will just keep driving it and enjoying it.
**i want to be frank and upfront that it has a rebuilt title due to a house fire in 2010.** high heat and smoke damaged the exterior paint. the car itself did not catch fire. the actual body panels, engine/mechanics/electrical, and interior were not damaged. if that bothers you, please move on from this thread. i understand the title situation makes it tricky to price and sell. i would prefer that this thread not deteriorate into a pricing debate or rebuilt title debate. thanks in advance.
i purchased the car in june 2017 from a local 25 year PCA member who had owned the car for 7 years prior to that. he purchased the car from california after the car was involved in a house fire. you can see a thread i started last summer after i bought the car detailing the rebuilt title, purchase, and updates:
https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...997-targa.html
the previous owner resprayed the car in its factory black color in 2010, and its a pretty good paint job. there are only a few minor scratches. no dents/dings. the paint shows extremely well, and i get more compliments on this car than any of my other porsches. the interior is near perfect with the exception of a few cracks in the dash. the targa mechanism works great. all electronics work as well. i have all records since i have owned the car. the previous owner was a mechanic on the side and did all of his own maintenance. i have none of his records or records prior to his ownership.
the mileage on the car is 67,094 which is believed to be correct. i have logged approximately 1,500 miles on the car in the past 9 months that i have owned it. the engine starts right up and idles smooth. it pulls hard through the gears. no leaks whatsoever. transmission shifts well. the car drives and handles very well. i have debated lowering the car slightly and redoing the suspension due to the car's age, but given how well it drives, i have chosen not to pursue this at this point. i did have the front upper strut mounts replaced recently.
since i have owned the car, the following maintenance/modifications have been done:
-new front/rear brake rotors, sensors, and pads (within last 100 miles)
-two oil changes (most recent within last 100 miles)
-new air filter
-new front upper strut mount replacement
-alignment
-new tires and completely refurbished/repainted OEM 2 piece speedline wheels (less than 1k miles)
-replaced air bag suspension ring
-replaced timing cover gaskets
-new steering rack and pinion
-replaced transmission shaft seal and new transmission fluid
-AC charged, cabin air filters replaced, new drive belt
-new alternator belt and new fan belt
-new battery
-fister stage 2 exhaust in matte black
-new fabspeed exhaust tips
-new front and rear lloyd floor mats
-new alpine head unit with bluetooth and USB outlet (i do not have the OEM head unit)
-new focal front speakers
-new rear polk speakers
-new rear stone guards
-new side stripes
-new instrument trim rings
overall, this is a solid well sorted car that looks fantastic and drives great despite having a rebuilt title. it would make someone a great 993 that can be daily driven and used in the real world without fear of adding miles or getting a scratch on it. i would not hesitate to take the car on a long distance drive, and will likely drive it to rennsport reunion this year if it has not sold. if anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me. thanks for looking.

Thanks for the nice complements! It really is a sweet car. I've had a lot of people interested in it, and I am definitely going to miss it. Sale should be finalized tomorrow.
