Just sold my '97 paint to sample C4S, all original manual, for a price I patiently waited to receive yet will not comment on, out of respect to the buyer, but would strongly advocate you worry less about $5k "here or there" and once you find the example that emotionally moves you, buy it.
When you truly want the Best of the Best, which my buyer also did, finding something that is special (aka - color/options/condition) is hard to attach a specific value and simply does not fit into a financial/mathematic algorithm - i.e. puts-and-takes of various options, etc.
Net/net = buy something that moves you as life is short and not worth the brain damage of worrying about depreciation, the investment value of a car, etc.
Best of luck and thanks for a fun thread.

@F1: Congrats on the Sale. Loved that color and very well cared for car. Very well spoken words Sir.
@myflat6: Thank you! Just sharing my humble experience of this past couple of months after joining RL. Had I joined RL earlier probably my 964 search would have been achieved in less time. That said both of them were well worth the wait, long and short.

@airkuhl993: Not sure if you've seen this one yet, but it looks like a solid example: http://cars.inspect-x.com/today-s-li...ra-c4s---74950
Bit overpriced, but looks to have good bones.

Although I was not looking for a unicorn on the 993 4S, (already went that route on my 964, and got it, however I missed on 4 years of driving while looking for it and turning down multiple others). hence having a set limit for budget on the 993S/4S search, I would like to provide some insight on my experience.
Porsche On!!

@SToronto: Posted as requested. Send me a PM with any questions there is a wealth of knowledge in here from others that know way more than I do. I have harvested invaluable knowledge in my few months of joining RL. GLWSearch.

Now this is a car: http://canepa.com/photo-gallery/1998...e-993-c2s5764/
One of the best 993s I've seen...and likely priced accordingly. My guess is high $130s, if not more. Price inquiry in.

Save yourself some airfare and have someone local put a paint meter on it before flying out there. Bruce runs a lot of cars through his paint booth before they hit his showroom. I wouldn't buy an air filter from that guy.
