Does Porsche Still Have A 928 Production Line?
Had a random thought as I went to a nice hike up in high mountains in New Mexico. As I sat and had my mind wander off away from cell phones, tablets and unlimited data plans I thought about the big project I have on my hands with my 87 engine rebuild and thought, after 22 years since last 928 was built how does Porsche still make parts for our favorite cars?
So now I'm asking you guys, how he hell are so many parts still available? Is there some huge warehouse/factory that is still stamping out 924/928/944 and 968's somewhere in the outskirts of Stuttgart? Or how do they do it?

If they run out of parts, they can re-order pieces from those original suppliers. Of course, those new replacement pieces cost much more than they did in 1978-1995....with obvious results....increases in prices.
If the original suppliers no longer desire to make the original pieces, Porsche may have the parts made by someone else. (The early T/O bearing comes to mind.) And the "new" part may have different specifications. (The early T/O bearing comes to mind.) And that new part might be a real struggle to install. (The early T/O bearing comes to mind.)

The same applies to most car makers - they don't really "make" things. They design them and sent out the specs for manufacturing tender to the big components makers. The 928 engine block is cast by Kolbenschmidt, the brake calipers are made by Brembo, the seats are made by Recaro, most of the HVAC is made by Behr, the wiring harness is Bosch and so are the ABS/PSD/LH/EZK components...
