Default Spruce Pines NC anyone?

A small group is getting together to do some driving in the area and if anyone has any suggestions on routes that would be sweet.

I arrived today and already did the Little Switzerland Loop or the Diamond Back loop as it's called and was pretty fun.

Rattler / 209 to hop springs is the best drive I've been on. Closer to Asheville.

go south on 80, and up again. But the best roads are west from LS. Go to Mt Mitchell, go past asheville and go down 151 & up. Go both sides of 276 , and go as far west as you want on BRP

28 from Highlands all the way to deals gap.
Dragon
Go to telico
Back via cherohala (165)
I like 441 crossing the park. Great drive.
There is another loop south of Waynesville with 276 and 215.
209 north of Waynesville
North of little Switzerland there is a great drive 261 to roan mountain
And so much more
That area is nirvana

It could be slow going now since we are only just now getting to peak leaf season in the Cashiers/Highlands, NC area - about 2 weeks late.

Look up Western North Carolina Cheese trail. Pick a place and just getting there will probably be a great drive.

Try calling Harmony Motors in Asheville and request a copy of "100 great drives in the smoky mountains" They were given to us at Treffen. It's made by a company called American Rides Maps. Their phone is 828-734-2164. I'd scan it and send it, but it would have to be done in sections.

I picked up a Motorcycle Touring Map from the TN welcome center produced by Wildrides.info.

Pretty nice map but hard to find.

I see on their web page they are going to allow map downloads in the future.

We have a place outside of Highlands and I was there last Friday (drove up and back to Atlanta the same day just to winterize before leaving town.) I drove the GT4 and took the windy/twisty roads in the area to make lemonade out of the lemons of having to go up there when I wasn't planning to. I was amazed at how little traffic there was in either direction, in the morning and in the afternoon. It was a great drive.

64 is great, Franklin to Brevard. And coming south from Blairsville to Turners Corner (19/129) is fantastic

Which goes right through Sapphire, our vacay home. But I would not stop in Brevard - right on direct to Asheville or a number of more scenic routes.

I had a great day yesterday before the group arrived.

Blue Ridge Parkway, 226A (The Diamondback), Rt 80 South (Devils Whip).... also stopped and hiked to Linville Falls and did the Linville Caverns.

This was today. All day. The C4S performed flawlessly and I have to say the traction control and ABS were fantastic. So predictable and car control was never hampered even when the front wheels were sliding on wet leaves heading into sharp turns.

We did a short stint on Blue Ridge Parkway to Rt 80 (Devils Whip) down to lake lure on Rt 9 (The Sidewinder) and then back to Spruce Pines by Rt 221 through Marion and returned via Rt 226A (The Diamondback) And at this point in the day we could hardly see each other due to the fog.

All in all 1 Porsche C4S, 2 GTIs (MK6 and MK7), and 1 Chevy Camero SS
