Default Dipstick on the V8 engines?

I know there is a dipstick available that can be used on the V6 gas engines - someone documented it here. It's not a permanent installation, but would be useful when changing oil.

I was looking for some info in the 958 service manual, and stumbled across the following - in a section on the V8 engines (V8 and V8-turbo):

So of course this is going to send me off onto parts websites..

Could it be? A dipstick on the 958 V8, or just a lazy service manual author who borrowed a diagram from the 955/957 series cars?

I got a VW dipstick for my Cayenne Diesel. The engine came with the dipstick tube in place and a small plug blocking off the dipstick tube. Perhaps you can see if there is a dipstick tube installed on your engine but not used. I doubt it though. The diesel engine came from Audi/VW where some installations did not use the electronic dipstick. I don't think your V8 was used anywhere else. The dipstick is a wonderful, time saving device.

While I find it weird to not be able to check my oil with a dipstick, I don't really long for one on the TT. I change the oil and add exactly 9.5 qts every time. It always hits the full mark and never needs oil between changes. Electronic gauge works fine for me.

@deilenberger Did you ever solve this mystery from the parts picture?

Interesting. Seems like you should be able to get one if the tube is already there. I was able to buy one for my Audi from ECS Tuning (doesn't come with one either).

Yes and no - yes I looked at the parts picture for the earlier V8 engines (955/957 with dipstick to see where they went into the engine) no - can't be done on the 958 V8 since the hole isn't in the block where the dipstick would have to go, and I believe some of the stuff on the front of the engine would get in the way of one anyway if there was a hole.
