Default Found the sound source...

I was expecting to see some shiny rub marks on the case where a pulley or nut/bolt was rubbing on the inside. Instead I saw a shiny spot on the outside (see pic). Turns out the case was rubbing on the tin back there. I pushed it away as best I could then shoved some gasket material in there. Dont expect shim to last, but when I test drove it there was a marked absence of noise. I initially had thought I had a fan bearing going, but as noise got louder in higher frequency, I was able to narrow it to steering pump.

Thanks for all the help,

Dan

Shiny is edge of rear tin (I'm guessing) where case was rubbing.

I’m struggling to picture where the rubbing is and more importantly how. This is my pic before I closed mine up.

I think the area I show as rubbing is highlighted below from John's shot. Not sure why there was no clearance in my case.

This curve is what I believe we see in my shot as rubbed bare.
