I like that your aiming for a name already, my S2 took a few years for that to bubble to the surface. He is now known as Mufasa, mostly because of the roar that the 968 intake + a drilled S2 airbox creates. His voice is loud and clear.
Well done! I am at about one year without Stu - yes, it's my S2.
My next step Scott. Phase one was the drive train and suspension, next I'll restore the engine, which looks like what you're doing? I'm not planning a full "engine out" as you've done, just belts, cam chains and rod bearings.
Phase three might be turbo charging. I have a 2.7L head and the turbo intake to match, those are like hen's teeth but I bought them about the same time I bought the car just to make sure I had them in stock. That would mean going back to an 8V head though, so I may (depending on available finances) abandon that plan and go for a full on 16V turbo design based on the 968. It's far enough down the line for me that I haven't really given it serious thought yet.
Cool story, but you have to admit, Yukichan is a fine specimen....!?!?!

T
I hadn't ever seen Yukichan as a breed before T, but I know the Akhal Teke, which should tell you how perversely obsessive I was about horse breeds back in the day.
Near as I can tell, they're white Thoroughbreds? I've never raced Thoroughbreds myself, but a woman I knew well did, and she very consistently placed in the top 10 on "Dazzle", a three day event horse she converted to long distance racing. Generally, the Arabs take all the places in those races. Minimum distance is 50 miles, that progresses to 75 miles (the Swanton Pacific had a 75 mile class I competed in), then the 100 mile class, epitomized by the Tevis Cup race from Truckee CA to Folsom CA along the Western States trail. Beyond that, there's the 5 day 500 mile Pony Express.
I raised and trained Arabs for those races in the 80's and 90's but as I got older I switched to running cattle on Quarter Horses. I had a small ranch in Wyoming for about 15 years and bred some of what I consider the best cutting horses in the world.
But I fell off one to many times in 2007 and wrecked my back, so now I drive cars as fast as I can
ps; That really is me in the hat. It's a picture my wife took at our ranch in Etna WY.
Here's a longer view. I'm riding Bubba, my roping horse, behind me is Peso, a very fine riding horse who's doing duty as a pack horse on our way to elk camp.
And yes, that's a .308 lever action Browning "Lightning" under my leg ...
