Default Getting molten plastic/rubber off paint

My next move on the 951 is painting the engine bay, which still looks like an ashtray after the PO's engine fire. In particular, I'm hung up on the spatter of molten rubber and plastic that litters the bodywork and fenders:

I've tried Goo-gone, simple green, WD-40, and gasoline to try and break it down enough to remove - nothing is really effective/efficient. Mechanical removal with Scotchbrite pads and a wire wheel work but the toll on the surrounding paint is significant. I'd like to leave the galvanization intact if I have the choice.

Can anyone recommend a process or product to get this sorted out? The material itself seems to be somewhat stiff. For example, it basically became one with the fuse box lid - same consistency. No getting it off of that. It may be from the hood insulation pads melting, or from other plastic or rubber.

Steam or heat. Then plastic razor blades would be my plan.

Dry ice might make the plastic brittle enough to pop it off with a plastic razor blade or other soft tool. Aircraft stripper will soften plastic right up but at the cost of your paint.

I think I used turpentine to get some nasty old tar off my paint once. Maybe not the same as molten rubber but might be worth a try.

Believe it or not, try Skin So Soft from Avon.

Interesting comments..I think perhaps a hot air gun set on low and held far enough away not to blister the paint might make the plastic be removable with a plastic razor blade scraper. On the other hand, dry ice might be the way to go... on making it pop off due to brittleness. Worth a shot I guess..:>)??

Thanks for the suggestions gents, just what I needed to get the ball rolling again on this. I also like the idea of the eraser wheel, ordering now. I'll give some other methods a shot in the meantime.

Tip with the erasing wheel: don't stay in one spot too long. You can go through the paint if not carefull. Check some you tube videos out.
