I just finished installing a Soul Performance Products valved exhaust on my 991.1. I put up an unboxing video and some photos in a post a couple of days ago, did the install yesterday, and had my first drive short with it this morning. It is in the reasonable price range and for the extraordinary quality it is quite a deal!

Here's a link to my unboxing video/photos: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/9939...l#post14322822. I might not get it done today, but very soon I'll post a before/after video with sound. After that I'll edit all of the videos I took during the installation and post those too.

My initial impression after the first drive is "Wow!". Even with PSE off the tone is fuller... even below 4k RPM and at idle (after that Porsche programming opens the valves in either mode anyway).

With PSE on and/or above 4k, the sound is tremendous with a new bark during upshifts that I had only subtly noticed before. Beyond 4k at WOT the sound in the cockpit is pretty amazing. My son was with me and said "Damn! It sounds like a race car!". As soon as we can I plan to get him to do some drive-bys for me so I can better understand how it sounds from outside. I think you'll find the before/after videos pretty amazing once I get them done, but for the moment I have some family stuff to do before I can get to that.

Previously the guys at autocross had commented how quiet the car was even with PSE on when out on the course. I don't think they are going to say that again!

Here, let me add some teaser photos of the system after install and a couple of heat cycles... I'll post more on the Soul thread soon.

Soul is a newer player on here but seems to be a solid choice and even more of a compelling value proposition given the price.

even though I never heard back about some high flow cat headers

Stormrune looks great!

question though, do you feel like the tips stick out further than OEM tips? Maybe to showcase the logo?

Do you feel any difference in power delivery or throttle response?

Hey Johnny. The amount the tips stick out has a large amount of adjustability. You could tuck them all of the way flush if wanted or even farther out. I played with it a bit and tried them where you see it in the photos above. When I look straight down on them I didn't think I had them out as much as them seem to be in the earlier photos, as you see below. I may tuck them in a little more. But yes, I was trying to get the logos out in the clear.

As to the power/responsive question: The only time I had out today was going to run an errand that didn't really allow much in the way of good testing. Some family things are taking all my time today. The sound meter in my head sure made me at least feel like I was zipping around faster

I hope to get some real driving time with it tomorrow and I'll capture the "after" videos at that time. I also set myself up with some 0-60 data from both a Waylens and Harry's lap timer with the stock PSE, so I'll plan on comparing that after the car has had a little time to adapt its programming to the new setup. While I was too cheap to do a real dyno, I figure any appreciable changes will show up in that data. Between the two devices I had a few runs all within less than a tenth of a second of each other so at least I am getting consistent data to compare against. I'm not really expecting to see anything measurable though to be honest.

BTW, I don't think I'll post much more about this in this thread since it is a bit of a hijack. I'll post additional info and results back on the Soul Performance thread soon.

IIRC, the msrp for 991.1 system was around 9.5k

991.2 is just shy of 6k for the slip on.

5K is kind of what I was thinking a good exhaust would cost. This I'm assuming is the "slip on" exhaust and not new headers. If it came to headers then I for sure need someone to do it. Im not that savy. Anyone doing the install themselves or having someone do it. Ive done stuff on my cars in the past but I reluctant to do it to this new car. If you guys are having a shop do it what are people getting charged?

Regardless of which exhaust you choose to add, at times the biggest problem is getting the old exhaust off. Installation of the new one is often a bit easier. The Soul installation was pretty straightforward.

I ran into problems removing the old PSE this weekend. My car was a CPO that was a DD for someone in Utah that clearly drove it in winter weather. I had done multiple exhausts on 911s previously, but they were all cars that had spent most of their lives in central Texas and those came off just fine. With this car, the corrosion on some of the exhaust bolts was such that they wouldn't come off. Fortunately the bolts to the cats/headers did okay, but the nuts on the sleeve bolts were degraded past being able to remove them. On the tips, which you don't normally need to remove but I needed to in order to try to get to the sleeves better, both bolts were fully seized and the heads popped off when I tried to turn them. I'm actually planning on posting a DIY on how to remove the exhaust in the case... but the bottom line is I used a Dremel with a diamond metal cutting blade to cut the straps on the stuck parts.

So the point is, take a look at the exhaust beforehand and see if the bolts look viable or not. If not, you'll either want to feel competent with handling such a problem or you'll want the pros to do it.

If the car has relatively clean/removable bolts, then removing the current exhaust isn't really all that tough. All of the bolts on the 991.1 are far more accessible than the ones on either of the 997 models. That said, it is still takes some work. Once the old system is out of the way, installing the new one was the easier part of the job, at least in my case.

Hey R_Rated! Looks like we exchanged a few PM's about your shop and some sport headers some time ago, maybe a few weeks. I am showing a response to the PM you sent but I want to be sure I didn't miss any emails or phone calls from you. Please, please let me know if I did so I can make sure you are fully taken care of!

Let's chat tomorrow on the phone, I am excited to tell you some of the news that has been developing

Best,
