Default Another AeroKit II strut question!

Hey all,

Another aerokit II question:

I have seen some AeroKit II rear deck lids with a dual rear strut setup, was this only on AeroKits installed by the factory and all dealer AeroKit installs only had the single strut?

Anyone have any ideas?

Does the dual strut setup use the GT3 hinge part number for the left: 996 512 151 01

I tired to use a turbo deck lid hinge for the left side but it raised the deck lid creating a large panel gap

With:

With (has ball pins but missing left strut):

Without:

Thanks!

Data point: My Aerokit II deck lid was installed on my 1999 with a single strut. I have never wanted for a second strut. (I think the wing blade rotates near or past the pivot point when the lid is open to reduce the need for a second strut, but I might be giving them far too much credit...)

Thanks Schnell, hard to get data about the dual strut set up I'd assume that if it wasn't fit by the factory then the dealership may not have gone to the trouble of installing a new left hinge.

I'm getting a quote for a GT3 hinge as the turbo one I was using made the decklid sit slightly too high on the left side.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I can either use the standard left hinge or buy a GT3 left hinge which has the ball pin.

The GT3 hinge has a different part number to the turbo left hinge even though both have a ball pin.

I prefer the GT3 double hinge look but I also want to stick to factory/OEM modifications and I've seen both with and without a second strut

Mine is a factory aerokit with dual struts in a 2001 cab. Fortunately I am laying beside the pool in the sun watching the kids play. After this fortune is over I'll head to the garage and do some research for you and snap some pics.

Cheers,

D.

Looks awesome! Its winter here so no jumping in the pool down here!

So far the reports are 2001< have the double strut but no reports of a double strut on a MK2

I was quite mistaken actually. Must have been the sun and a beer or two. Mine has the single strut as the pics portray. I got some closeups of the numbers on the hinges. As you can see, there are holes for the dual ball pins but no *****. Mine was installed at the factory I imagine. The code for stationary wing is in the build sticker and there was no switch for a movable wing.

Here are the pics...

Cheers,

Thanks D much appriciated

Its odd that the GT3 has two struts but the Carrera only has one yet the lid is almost identical apart from the configuration of the intake port on the MK2.
