Who's running what aftermarket steering wheel?

Reviving this thread as I'm thinking about swapping out my stock 86 steering wheel. It's just an idea at this point but honest thoughts on a 991 cup wheel in a 944T?

Well the 991 cup wheel more of a toy than anything else considering it lacks a horn but certainly feels nice for Autocross/track duty.

Very nice!

As an update, I ended up switching to the new version of the 991 cup wheel. The crest is of much higher quality. The reduced diameter over the stock wheel shortens the turning radius - a fun drive.

Looks like your arms will be extended out too far. I recommend a spacer and quick hub disconnect if that's the case for you. I have both and it works out great for my arm position, but I'm 6'4" so I need them as my seat is all the way back.

Thanks for the heads up! I think the seat was moved back for the picture. I'm 6' and with the seat moved forward slightly the arm length doesn't seem to be an issue. Getting that horn to work is another issue..

Question for you guys with non-airbag wheels, does removing the factory airbag trigger a "warning" light on the dash?

Unfortunately I can't speak to this as mine is an '86 without airbags.

I have a 1988 951 and want to install an aftermarket steering wheel. Who has installed one and disabled the air bag? Any good pictures and instructions to bypass it? All I want to do is install the new one and don't know what to do with the wires and any possible dash warnings etc.

You'll need hook up the horn wire contact or replace the entire turn signal switch with a non airbag one. The hub that your wheel mounts to uses a contact ring that grounds off of that copper contact.
The contact looks like this
You just find your current horn wire and connect it to this contact on the back side.
Then disable or remove your airbag system/ warning lights. The site was listed above to fo this.
