Default Could a golf ball total my 955?

Yeah - sounds like a weird question but without pictures, I think most of you will understand my situation.

Noticed on the stationary panel (rearmost) of the Pano Sunroof on my 2006 Cayenne with 179K miles that it looks like a golf ball hit my sunroof and the glass looks alot like a shattered mobile phone screen.

After researching, it appears that the front glass and the middle glass are able to be replaced. The rearmost may very well be integrated into the entire sunroof assembly.

If that is the case, the rearmost + assembly is like $5K from the dealer. My KBB value optimistically is $5-6K. I assume insurance will total the car and the settlement will probably suck.

So, trying to figure out if there are options. I can't find much online about Pano Sunroofs and broken glass panels.

Bummed out.

How about a complete used Pano roof unit from one of the auto dismantlers or maybe off eBay?

This has been an ongoing issue for the past few years and it's not going to get any better. A real shame that an entire vehicle may have to be scrapped due to broken glass.

I'm wondering just how hard it would be for an aftermarket mfr to fabricate replacement panels out of lexan or even metal? A core charge for the old one would allow for stocking some of these roof assemblies for quick turnaround.

Hey Pete - they seem to be unobtainium.

If I could get a used one, I'd part it in the garage and go through the "hell on earth" of replacing it However, they just don't seem to be out there.

I have not put through an insurance claim yet and I am actively communicating with dismantlers, so we'll see.

Just really seems to suck.

It would probably be cheaper and easier to just pull out the pano mechanism and have a piece of steel welded in. You'd have the world's only non-sunroof P!g!

Good point.... because I cannot imagine paying $4200+ (best new price found) for part 95556245000.

Maybe I'll go old school with a canvas top

Yeah, I somewhat thought about that, Shawn. I honestly am considering the canvas roof until an unobtainable sunroof assembly appears again

It would probably be cheaper to buy a donor, take the pano out and part the rest. If you do that, get one with a gray interior: I could use some stuff.

If donors were available, the part would be available

jej3, Derek Tsang (member here) had a Pano roof last year with a damaged mechanism. Not sure if he ever replaced it but if so, might have the panel you need or if not, maybe you guys could share in the cost of a new one and both get the parts you need.

Here was his thread - https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-...l#post14265186

Maybe contact these guys - https://www.webasto.com/us/markets-p...anorama-roofs/

to see if they can do anything for you, like supply a custom replacement panel (or maybe they actually make the roof for Porsche).

Good luck.

Unless you are not planning on replacing a "totaled" vehicle, you should figure in your replacement cost for another vehicle. That may put a full pano replacement in context.

Fair enough, @stronbi. However, spending 5-6K to replace the pano sunroof when the world says my SUV is worth only 5K now wouldn't be something my head could absorb.

I'm still chasing a replacement full pano salvage roof. If it works out, that's great. If it doesn't, I may file a claim and see where my insurance company takes this process.

Cheers!

You would think lexan and silicone would work. How hard can it be to cut a piece to the right size?
